once again, totally agree. (see post 547). i do understand that this is bs.... ...but caveats, stipulations, shades of gray...the things that help clarify our posts, no?
Not when they're used to completely discredit mild praise. Basically, the coach posts a video. Because he knows that the 5-0 result is flattering. Because it's a YNT game. Which means it's more about development than the result. Those are caveats to a 5-0 win over a Paraguay team that had done very well in CONMEBOL, and hasn't lost this badly in who knows how long. So Hackworth points out a good example of the *ideals* of "possession" and "playing out of the back". And it is a good example. The ball moves side to side, up and back, from GK to defenders, to midfielders, and back. No grandiose claims that the US is now a top side. So it doesn't need more caveats. It is what it is, sustained possession in a YNT game against the will of the opponent. Yeah, if the opponent's more fresh, or better at pressing, or more motivated, it maybe doesn't work as well. But the point wasn't to suggest that the summit had been reached.
agreed. but can we also agree that, on a discussion board, there might be other caveats to proffered ideas? excellent. but, imho, it meant little at a point at the end of the game when the opposing team had given up. a clip from earlier, more contended portions of the game when they escaped opposition pressing by passing out of the back (and such excellent passing did occur), would have been better. nuance. not denigrating the team. don't agree. but, ok.
Weah's long-range effort v Paraguay is a nominee for Goal of the Tournament http://www.fifa.com/u17worldcup/vid...ment/index.html?intcmp=fifacom_hp_module_news http://www.fifa.com/u17worldcup/videos/goal-of-the-tournament/video=2918274/index.html
Coming up just short ... "Second place in the Goal of the Tournament vote went to USA's Tim Weah for his stunning long-range strike against Paraguay, while Sergio Gomez's pile-driver for Spain against Iran took third." [First place went to Germany's Jann-Fiete Arp.] http://www.fifa.com/u17worldcup/new...st-2918670.html?intcmp=fifacom_hp_module_news
