Congrats to the Seattle Sounders FC on their MLS Cup win. They earned it. Frei came up huge when he had to.
Former TFC guys always come back to haunt us. Strangest Vanney move, IMO, was bringing Cheyrou in for Cooper when Johnson was in already. A better move would have been Ricketts for Cooper at that point. But whatever.....
Agreed. When a championship is on the line, you need your best players on the pitch. Vanney made a huge mistake subbing off Giovinco. That, as much as anything else, cost TFC the title.
I was going to put another YouTube clip here, but this one makes sense. It's sing-along time, folks. You know the words...
He was furious when he came off. Yelling at the staff and hitting his chair. It didn't look like he wanted to come off.
ya Seattle won...so gutted, but its the age old question...did they really deserve to win as they certainly didn't try to win, but they had a game plan and stuck with it defensively and were perfect for the most part doing so. Perfect road game, but I think they didn't play it that way. They played it...how do you stop Giovinco and Altidore and neutralized them. Hurts so bad but there is no blame tonight. You cant blame Bradley for the miss...the guy was so stellar all playoffs. No one wants to go up 6th to take a shot. Its an inch lower and its in so was Morrow a goat...no. Great season. Its so hard to get to this game so that's why it hurts even more. I think they will be a contender again next year.
From here: http://www.sportsnet.ca/soccer/sounders-defeat-toronto-fc-penalties-win-mls-cup/ Vanney told reporters after the game that Giovinco asked him to be subbed out due to fatigue. It was Vanney’s last substitution and the hope was Ricketts could invigorate what was a limp TFC attack.
regardless of whether he asked off or not....he was not having a good night....whether it was their defence, or TFC's inability to create space for him or (on several ocassions) him being let down by a heavy first touch (which is very unusual for him) ....things were not going well. It was a gutsy change.....the match sure felt like it was going to penalties and while you respect Vanney's attempt to win it before that point...you have to wonder what the penalty lineup looks like if Seba had made it through the 120.
It's unfortunate that after that exciting and high-scoring conference final, Seattle won the final by essentially playing for the 0-0 draw. But the technique evidently worked. Seba didn't have a good game; part of that was because he was double- and triple-teamed all night and the ref didn't do a whole lot to protect him.
Seba's still the best penalty-taker. Could we have played with 10 men for a few minutes and rest him for the penalties? It's not as if Seattle would attack very much.
