IRAQ vs UAE 02-01-2018 21:00 local time Venue: Jaber International Stadium, Kuwait City Broadcast:Abu Dhabi Sports Dubai Sports Al Iraqiya Sports
As far as I'm concerned, this is the real final. Oman and Bahrain don't worry me at all, I think UAE is the strongest team left apart from us. Hopefully Hussein Ali continues his form, we can win this cup.
Very nervy first half. The players are panicked which means lots of silly mistakes. UAE is playing very poorly as well. Whoever comes out with more confidence in the second half will win. Saad should come on instead of Attwan, we need his stability in midfield.
Such an obvious result as soon as it went to penalties. Jalal is not good enough for international football. Could barely hold onto the ball during play, and was completely useless at penalties. How the hell did Humam and Attwan play 120 minutes? Why did Ali Husni come off so early? Why did Aymen Hussein get subbed so late? Why did Ali Faez not take a penalty when he's the best set piece specialist on the team? This match was a tactical mess from Basim Qasim and the players didn't help either. So many stupid mistakes and poor decisions. A shame because UAE are nothing special. 90% of the game was played in front of their goal, but we couldn't finish. At the very least we can say that we're playing without almost half of our usual first choice XI lol.
Bro why do we always need to blame the goalkeeper? Jalal was solid throughout this tournament. By far the best GK we have in Iraq. He is not the best penalty stopper, but at least he is solid and doesn't commit stupid mistakes. Last time we forced Jalal out, karma gave us Hameed..
Hi Everyone, I am new and this will be my 1st comment on the entire forum. I decided to participate after watching the horrific game. I am a huge fan of Johan Cruyff philosophy and tactics. I love Pep Guardiola. I believe the attack starts with the goalkeeper and the defence starts witb the striker. So there is a build-up, assuring ball possesion and passing it with eachother. My remarks on today's game: I will begin with the manager. He has no strategy whatsoever. He was clueless. I saw plenty of mistakes and lost possession while he stand idly not telling his players what to do. You are a manager and not a statue. The players had zero discipline and were panicking. The manager is suppose to prepare the mentality of the player. On a personal comment, he dresses ridiculous, what the hell is that suit? Back from the 70s? Basim Qasim is stuck in the past. We need a european coach. Iraqi coaches don't cut it. Okay now on the players, complete garbage. Zero football intelligence, kept repeating silly mistakes i.e. offside, bad pass, shooting off target. Players like Mhawi, Bahjat should not play for the National team. They are below 60 average rating. Terrible players. Shelfish players all want to shoot. Running around like a headless chicken. They need to go and give a try to play in Europe. I am very dissapointed yet again.
Jalal is not a good goalkeeper simple as that. I don't see why it's ok to blame a midfielder/striker/defender but not the goalkeeper. He was a non-factor in the penalty shootout, and before that the ball was constantly slipping out of his hands throughout the game. He was not stable, and it's shows how incompetent UAE are that they couldn't score during normal time. When Jalal is our best option, then it's clear we have a serious problem in that position. A good goalkeeper helps the team play with confidence, especially when it comes to a shootout like today. Honestly, I don't see that much of a difference in quality between Jalal and Hameed.
Oh and now all the blame goes on the coach, because of one match? Did you watch the rest of the tournament? Overall we played well, even today the approach wasn't perfect but I think we still were the bettter team. The same players who were praised days ago just turned into complete garbage? Dhurgham is injured and Ali Adnan was unavailable for this tournament. That's why Bahjat was called up to fill the LB spot. Same goes on for Alaa Mhawi. Walid Salem left the squad with an injury days before the tournament.
I admit that Jalal has to improve in stopping penalties, but what did he do wrong besides that? The ball slipped out of his hands once, that's it. He was solid throughout this whole tournament. Take a look at the highlights and tell me which mistakes he commited. Oh and please don't compare him to Hameed. He is simply the worst GK in Iraqi football history
I don't see much of a problem with Basim Qasim's approach to setting up the team. On the whole, we outplayed UAE. We dominated possession and they were limited to some counter attacks and pouncing on mistakes from our players. The real problem was his substitutions. When he subbed off Ali Husni, it killed the attack. I don't agree that a coach needs to scream at the players from the sidelines. In football, all the preparation is done before the game, no amount of yelling is going to stop a player from making mistakes, the players will barely hear him anyways. As far as Iraqi coaches go, Basim Qasim is decent. Mahawi is a fine player, Bahjat is not that good, but remember he's playing out of position. He's a CB playing as a left back. Today was an off-day for some players and individual mistakes among other things. Regardless, it's only the gulf cup, and we are playing without Ali Adnan, Ahmed Yasin, Brwa Nouri, Justin Meram, Dhurgham etc.. and we still pinned UAE's best XI in their own half for the majority of the game. On the bright side, Hussein Ali was able to show himself as a big talent, so that is something important gained from this tournament.
It was not just one moment. It happened several times and that's not acceptable from your goalkeeper in a match like this. He's just average, but it's not like we have others available, so we have to make do with what's available. I will admit that comparing him to Hameed is a bit overboard. At least Jalal doesn't make the kinds of insane blunders Hameed makes.
What I see is that Iraqi fans tend to forget fast. Yesterday this was our new generation and everyone was praising the coach. Today, they are all shit and garbage. We have to support our team, especially in times where we are building a new team for the future. Disappointments are expected. As long as we learn and correct, I'm completely fine with it. I'm proud of the team. Really enjoyed watching them play, even today. For the first time in years I'm noticing improvement with local players. That itself is an huge achievement. Next up is the Asian Cup. Bring it on, Iraq.
Ya Suren I am new in this forum lol so you have zero quote coming from me praising the team. The most important game so far in the competition you lose it? cmon... terrible subs, all wrong. Ali Husni is a good player. Just for fun, we should grant citizenship to players from Brazil, Ghana, Nigeria
I'm talking about Iraqi fans in general, not you. It was a wrong approach from Qasim for this game, but overall we played very well in this tournament. Keep in mind that we missed a lot of starters.
