Great performance to start the world cup. Great to see the young boys and older ones stand up. I just hope players and fans keep their feet on the ground.

Im surprised no one mentioned the way we defended corners. We werent marking players, we were just protecting the area (handball style).

Great start. This was machine :D But Klose has to score at least 2 of his chances.

I have to note that Löw set up the right team and the right tactics. It's also an achievement over these totally overhyped critizism to him.

Now the team has to proof against strong Serbians that this performance wasn't a dayfly.

What a party yesterday, I'm more dead than alive behind my desk but my supervisor isn't more fit either.:D

    EDIT:
    Press Review (in German)
    England:

    Spanien:

Marca: "Dieses neue Deutschland ist ein Skandal! Deutschland blendete bei seinem Coming-Out in Südafrika.

As: "Frisches Blut, alte Tugenden!

    Italien:

No Panzerjokes yet, I wonder ^^

Germany far too good for that disgrace of a performance from Australia. The sooner Verbeek is out the door the better and he should take plenty of old hacks with him.

    Yes, the homer-sexuals...lol.

Actually, it is when they decide to "come out of the closet" and no longer hide their gayness. That is known as a coming out party...

The last few pages of this thread are so full of BS that I lost interest in searching for where the serious post-match discussion took place.

If one wants to look for something less-than-perfect in Germany's performance yesterday, it's certainly the extent to which the team was frozen (nervous) for quite some time at the beginning.

I hope that Klose stays in the team, one shouldn't try to reinvent football by assuming that top level experience has no importance whatsoever.

Edit: Btw, nothing against the player or Brazilians or whoever, but I don't like to see Cacau that much for Germany, because he unlike all the other immigrant players came to Germany as a footballer. The international audience mixes up his fate with the fate of the others who grew up in Germany/whose football talent was nurtured here.

For quite some time?. They scored at the 8th minute.

I agree Klose should stay (though I don't really know the another guy... Kiessling?).

Agree. Also analysing the game even further yesterday, Kloses off the ball movement is vital for 2 goals that were scored and some chances we had. I think no other striker knows these movements as well as Klose does and that is why in my opinion Löw stuck to Klose.

I think they still looked somewhat frozen compared to how a non-nervous, experienced side would play at 1-0.

There are some discussions in Group Stage forum in the World Cup section, it stays a bit more on topic. I agree though, they did look a bit too cautious/nervous but it is to be expected of the young team. They should grow with each game as they gain all their experience basically in the tournament.

I get the point and I used to think similarly. But I think that this is unfair to the player as well as potentially harmful to the team. Not to mention totally unnecessary if you look at Cacau's personal story:

This is a very good article on him, well worth the read.

You've been away for too long, clearly. :D

I used to feel that way too. But yeah, there's a personal story behind this...

Frozen??? Nervous maybe, but who would not be nervous....but "frozen"??? Australia had one good chance, wasted it and we score 4 minutes later...

One more thought...I'm quietly pleased that in this great performance and in all the raving about Germany's young talent Manuel Neuer still hasn't played any role whatsoever. While I know he's also capable of a crazy blunder, I'm quite confident our opposition will become acquainted with this secret weapon later.

While the Chilean commentators had nothing but praise for the team's performance from yesterday, it is quite noticeable that it wasn't the same with the Argentinian ones (who comment on Fox Sports and ESPN around here), who were far more reticent (most of them anyway), today one kept insisting that Germany were "only" winning by 2 goals and that it had been only since Cahill was sent off that Germany really had control of the game...

On another thing, it was funny reading the beginning of this thread, lol, everyone was being so pessimistic at the beginning, after Australia's chance, and then everyone was so enthusiastic.
