I was waiting to see if Cakir would make the error and allow the injured player to return from the goal line with the ball in play.
VAR for SFP on the challenge by Pickford on Mandzukic? I kid, I kid... well sort of. Any where else on the field and it's foul and maybe a red.
Just in that 15 minutes, very disappointed. Called two dives fouls on England, missed Dele getting clipped down, same AR missed two clear out of bounds, one of which would have been a corner. In just 15 minutes, that was really poor.
Studs into the knee. I'm not advocating for a PK and foul, because the culture of the game just allows keepers to do that. But Lalas' point was great. Anywhere else on the field it's a foul and a probably red card.
So goalies are supposed to get out of the way of people sprinting right at the goal now? Hate to see Mandzukic get hurt, but the goalie has to be able to stand there and make that play.
I'm honestly talking myself into this one. I really struggle with this. What does Pickford do here? He puts the bottom of his cleat square into Mandzukic's knee. And it's not a foul because he gets the ball kicked into him? Anywhere else on the field that's 100% a red card.
GK's tend to be allowed to do whatever they want. This is not a 2018 innovation. See Neuer v. Higuain in the 2014 final.
Come on, forget about this being the WC for a second....this is everywhere/every time. It's an unwritten rule that as long as a keeper makes a save, he can pretty much do anything to an attacker and get away with it. Is it right? No. But you NEVER see that called.
