ESPN just showed a stat about the Chilean player running 11.5 km. Are there published stats on the distances for the refs in WC?
When we did focus on him, Geiger looked calm and in control. And there were very few times that the match focused on him. High marks.
THE REFEREE WAS BIASED! HE WAS FROM THE USA AND ONE OF THE TEAMS WAS FROM TEXAS! WAKE UP SHEEPLE! (But seriously, I really liked his match control)
HHAHAHAHAHAHAH REDSTAR91 HAHAHAHAA I DIDNT EVEN NOTICE YOU WERE EATING CROW UNTIL MY PHONE NOTIFIED ME HAHA Geiger, Hurd, and Fletcher are one of the best teams in the tournament at this point. They just handled a knockout game with composure. Aguilar and Rodriguez are solid as well, to keep CONCACAF clean so far. The thin limb you stepped out on a few days ago just broke On a serious note, Geiger handled the Chilean attempts at delay with ease - he never bought into their attempts for calls, which helped Spain remain calm, and was very efficient when approaching the "injured" players, which helped keep the game on pace. Yellow card accumulation rules are going to help him convince the Chileans to drop it, but there was still a large amount of man management that was done to help convince them to get on with it.
I saw it as the bolded, but thanks for the info on the "request"..... And I thought Geiger was very good again.
Alright now, easy there. We all make predictions that don't come true now and again. Find the high road! This I can agree with!
CAF too. Gassama yet to feature, but Haimoundi did well today, albeit some major talking points on the penalty.
I will say that fate and the fortunes have been kind to Mark so far -- neither of his matches were particularly difficult (at that level). Although, it can be argued that his performance helped create that result. Who's to say which came first -- the chicken or the egg?
Sure, but with such a high level of internal debate on this said forum it seems like the penalty call could have gone either way (and equally debated if he hadn't have given it), so you have to give him the benefit of the doubt.
I think referees can help promote calm and reassure players he has their safety in mind. You may never get a Holland to play without hacking as in the 2010 World Cup Final, but there are things you can do to mitigate matches escalating into chaos. Mark and the referee crew have done a fine job of being proactive. Notice how many times Mark was in to break up any potential flare ups. Some other referees did not and the games had major misconduct and talking points for the crew and match inspector that would be unfavorable.
Haven't seen much of Geiger on these shores (except for FIFA tournaments), however, I must say he's been very impressive. Another near-perfect performance in a very significant game. He's a certainty for at least one knockout appointment. Keep it up!
