2016-2017 Earl Foreman Awards Organization of the Year - Harrisburg Heat Best Theme - Tacoma Stars Social Media Team of the Year - TBA 5/5/2017, nominated: Milwaukee, San Diego, Ontario To be announced the week of May 8th: Best Promotions Best Broadcast (English & Spanish) Best Sales Team Executive of the Year
I can't tell if this is because of, or in spite of........that lunatic on facebook who loves the Sockers.
Best Promotions - Milwaukee Wave http://www.maslsoccer.com/news/masl-recognizes-milwaukee-wave-for-best-promotion
Best Broadcast (English) - Milwaukee Wave Best Broadcast (Spanish) - Soles de Sonora http://www.maslsoccer.com/news/masl-announces-dual-earl-foreman-awards
Chicago's English broadcast left a LOT to be desired, so I actually did watch the Spanish broadcast for a couple games for that reason (though I don't know Spanish)
Team Executive of the Year - Luis Paz of Soles de Sonora http://www.maslsoccer.com/news/masl-announces-executive-of-the-year Best Sales Team - Baltimore Blast http://www.maslsoccer.com/news/masl-recognizes-sales-excellence Thus ends the Earl Foreman Awards for this year.
You must have just missed it. Baltimore Blast won that one http://www.maslsoccer.com/news/masl-recognizes-sales-excellence
I honestly thought this was a great choice for this award and giving it Luis Paz of Soles de Sonora I am honestly impressed at what they have built in only 2 years.
Not much new information but just a quick update on the indoor Rochester Lancers: http://www.frontrowsoccer.com/2017/05/24/hat-trick-teams-lancers-indoor-plans-known-30-days/
Wait. EDIT TL DR (the above) I found the "Dome" on google. https://www.therocdome.com/new-gallery A couple things jump out at me - When Cardshop said it has 'less than 4K seats' I was thinking 3500. Which to me would be ok. While I have never seen or heard of this facility the photos look like it is considerably less than 4K, they probably have temporary seating. - I see no mention of, floor plan of, seating plan of, photograph of or passing reference to Hockey. Now before everyone scratches their collective heads, indoor soccer was designed to be played on a hockey footprint with a field inside the hockey boards. Some facilities would melt the ice, drain the water and lay the carpet over the concrete floor, others will put down a false floor atop the ice and lay the carpet. The problem is, I don't see any boards, any plexiglass, any benches. - Without hockey, you need to re-camber the lights. A number of teams who have decided to play basketball, indoor soccer, hockey and arena football go to a complex that was designed for a horse show or something. The lighting is all wrong, it is usually cambered to a stage arena, not 200' x 85'. Have they checked out Bill Gray's Iceplex? It is off I-390 IIRC and depending on if they have a false floor or not could be easy.
The Tacoma Dome didn't have hockey in the 1980s when the original Stars started. Also, many of the seats in the Tacoma Dome were temporary bleachers. Remember, it was designed to accommodate many sports. I believe it has hosted outdoor soccer and American football as well. You will not see the Lancers return to Blue Cross Arena unless the rent is substantially lowered. That was one of the factors that caused them to fold the first time.
The Tacoma Dome might not have had a hockey team, but they had the hockey infrastructure.......boards, ice making, zamboni, benches etc. The Vancouver Canucks played a number of exhibition games there in the 80s. They had good ice too, the air conditioning system had to be top notch to cool all that space for summer events so the temp was always conducive. The boards, benchs, plexiglass and carpet are not cheap. Thats all I am saying. They need a facility that can accommodate them without any costs. We still don't know if this place has/doesn't have the infrastructure too, just a guess from looking at their site.
In Saint Louis, the arenas in the 'downtown' area (Scottrade Center, Chaifetz arena) would be ruinously expensive for a semi-pro indoor soccer team (all of the teams are semi-pro) in the MASL. The Ambush were barely averaging in the mid-2000s per game attendance last season. Surprised they did even that well while fielding an awful team. Luckily the Ambush play in a more affordable suburban arena, the Family Arena. The lower bowl seats 5000 people, perfect for indoor soccer. If the Ambush can actually figure out how to sign enough experienced veterans to win more games and staff enough sales people in their office to sell tickets, they may still exist after next season. No free-agents were signed by the Ambush in May, so we are still waiting on better players to be signed from elsewhere.
