It has been confirmed that Mark Schwarzer has had his transfer request accepted by the Middlesbrough board so now he's looking for a new club.

There is a rumour that he could be heading to Arsenal which would be great if he managed to start that is.

Wow this forum is actually moving for once.

Lets hope Schwarzer moves to a bigger club instead of just side stepping to another mediocre club.

There was a mention that there maybe some interest from the Spanish league.

 Boro suggest that there may not be enough time to do the transfer.

Where would he go though? At 33 I can't see too many big clubs going for him.

anyone else think hes a bit overrated.....well, alot really

i mean he makes plenty of blunders, doesn't instill confidence into the defence, isn't strong with crosses or handling, doesn't have a great reach? me and my dad were actually surprised mclaren didn't move him on when he arrived on teeside

but apparently were the only ones?

The only thing he can do right is stop a penalty. I'm pretty sure that if Kalac was still playing for Perugia Guus would of played him in WCQ. I guess it was fate.

I really wanna know why he handed in this transfer request, no ones said why yet.

I'm suprised after all these years that he'd suddenly want to go. I don't beleive his outgrown the club.

Not aware of details to any great degree but the word was that he was heading to Spain. If that is the case,I think its a great move.Better players, higher level "regular" competition and some invaluable experience against some of the Brasilian stars pre Germany.
IMO,the Primera has done wonders for Aloisi, and as brilliant as Schwarzer can be,this league will lift him to another level because the world class stars will be opposition on a weekly basis, unlike the premiership where it is on occasions.

He probably wanted to be assured of first team selection for his club side, being a world cup year, he is concious of the competition for National team selection also. He MUST be a first team regular for his club side to be assured of a first team place for the WC. There is an up and comer in Jones, another Aussie keeper for Middlesborough who can threaten his position for his club and therefore jeopardise his position and his WC hopes. Mark is fully aware of his fierce competition with Zeljko Kalac, an understudy keeper for AC Milan.

    Read about it.

Seems reasonable. Hope it payes off for him. Portsmouth are considering him. Whether he ends up in England, Spain or Italy.

Re: Mark Schwarzer to leave Middlesbrough

I know he's not, but if he did go to italy or spain, i think it would of been a big mistake for him.

Especially Italy, in italy they are very un forgiving to keepers, one mistake and your out of the team. Unfortunatly schwarzer seems to carry the mistake in his back pocket. England is a little more forgiving, except for the big clubs. Take for example Ascoli's first choice keeper, its been about 5 years since he played a Serie A game since this season. He played for Napoli approx 5 years back, had one bad game, was sold, sat on the bench and for the past 2 season sat as 3rd choice keeper for Ascoli in Serie B, luckily for him both no. 1 and number 2 keepers were injured and proved again to be a good keeper. But he probably would of came back the next week for Napoli and played good again, but because italy is such an unforgiving place he never got that chance. Imagine if schwarzer made a mistake in serie a, in a world cup year.
