Ah you silly Dodger fans. Gibson's HR in game 1 of a an anticlimatic WS (the Dodgers won in 5 games) has nothing on Joe Carter's 1993 series winning shot at the then SkyDome in Toronto in the bottom of the 9th inning of game 6 with the Blue Jays trailing the Phillies 6-5 at the time. As a transplanted Torontonian, I may have a slight bias to that one... Vin Scully also called that one on the radio: And here is the Gibson HR with Scully on the call for NBC:
pffft. there wasn't an ounce of tension in Carter's home run. Mitch Williams hadn't got anyone out in a week, and wasn't going to get anyone out then, either. anyone thinking the Phillies were going to close it out was delusional. bringing in Williams then was the most egregious example of push-button managing I'd witnessed in a lifetime (up 'til then) dominated by baseball analysis. nice one, Fregosi.
Hey guys, anyone remember the time I had 9 simultaneous heart attacks watching Spurs get into the CL semi finals in one of the most bonkers football matches of all time? Lol, good times.
wow. thanks for posting. you really get the sense the team loves sissoko. also was cool to see the celebration and then anguish on the sidelines during the last goal/no goal review
even tho they ended up losing the WS that year (Bumgarner ) this is my most memorable baseball moment of recent years and THIS one as a kid
and of course this one too soccer is the beautiful game, but I think baseball is perfection in competition. (and NHL playoff hockey may be the most exciting watching of ANY sport, IMO)
Ok, I don't know how we veered into baseball, but here is the granddaddy of them all: 1951, Polo Grounds, NY Giants beat the Brooklyn Dodgers to win the NL Pennant. Now imagine if they had VAR back then and ruled it out!
Hi all! I'm a Korean Son fan but also a Mets fan. I was there in 86. You have to include this as they were deservedly called the Miracle Mets. They were down in the series and was about to lose the final game and even the broadcasters put up a sign congratulating Boston..until the Mookie at bat and then the Buckner incident and time stood still.
everyone remembers the Buckner bobble, but forgets that awful wild pitch that scored the run and allowed the winning run to get to 2B. Buckner didn't deserve 100% of the blame same with Denkingers blown call in 1985 world series, and Bartmans interference in 2003 playoffs. neither was 100% decisive in the outcome, there were plenty of other things that happened to spread the blame in each
pfft! it were Gabby Hartnett's 'homer in the gloaming' back in '38, though Mace Brown would be happy for you to think otherwise. c'mon, people. … er … what's happening here?
