Of course there is. Chad, France and the US were doing a good job working together to control and rid Boko Haram and ISIS in Niger. Chad being the dominant and best force in the area. Trump in his "Wisdom!" Despite protests from the State dept? decided to place Chad on his anti immigrant list. Chad protesting that, pulled their forces out of Niger leaving a huge void for US forces to cover and were caught out on an area the chad forces had covered. Obviously simplified but it all came down to a Trump F*ck up and exacerbated by the Sounds of Silence from the White House in the past couple of weeks.
The only problem with the Chad theory is that even before the travel ban they were operating nowhere near where the Americans were ambushed. Not remotely close enough to be effective as a QRF. Even if the ban was never enacted they would not have been in the area anyways.
But what was the point in angering an anti-terror ally in that region? Nobody in TrumpCo has explained that. And how many Chadians emigrate to the states each year? 100? There is nobody coming here from N. Korea either.
