McKennie pretty mixed so far. Playing with some physical strength defensively, sometimes a little slow to keep the ball moving.
This game in general has been awful so far. Feels like neither team can put more than 2 passes together
McKennie seems mostly lost... is this how he plays most of the time, or? Granted it's a match without a foothold in sight. But still.
Great energy and defensive play, offensively not so much.... granted that can describe most of the team.
Commentators opining on multiple foul calls on Mainz dives without noting that they are dives. Physical game with little pretty possession either way, though Schalke outplaying them. Schalke not looking as good offensively through the midfield as one would like for McKennie's sake, though he is making aggressive trailing runs from deep on offense.
I wouldn’t say he looks bad but hasn’t exactly sparkled. Looks like he’s running in mud at times and isn’t taking his time on the ball. He’s doing a decent job of tackling and disrupting the play, but does look a little rusty. He’s not really moving enough off the ball to be involved much.
First start in over a month. No surprise he isn't too sharp. It's not like any of his teammates are looking good either.
Diallo embarrasses McKennie down the wing, turning him around twice, then crossing off Wes's arm. It was just outside the box - ref chooses not to call a penalty nor a FK, but a corner. Schalke seems not to have left the locker room yet.
I"m a few minutes behind in my stream, but that really could have been called a handball in the box by Wes. Did look incidental, but slow motion replay makes it look worse for him.
Miracle individual run and goal by Caligiuri. Right up the middle from left back through three defenders, placement shot to far post from 20. Wow.
