Why are you guys even discussing LB? For one, so far Marcelo has been decent this season. Secondly, he didn't even play in the PSG horror show and his replacement did very well defensively. If anything the focus should be on Lucas never playing again. Kroos and Varane being burried on the bench and how the hell we can get either Odrizola or Carvajal to perform competently. Zidane needs to make these changes and if he doesn't they will get him "changed".
Kroos getting an extension was a BIG Mistake and when Varane wanted to leave we should have said get £100m and you can go!
I read an article that Varane apparently called JL after he got fired to apologise. Varane practically picking up right where he left off last season. Kroos running the same play. Only difference between this season and last is Marcelo and Dani swapped roles.
Based on what i have seen vs PSG. We would have eaten a few goals more with Marcelo operating on that left flank for sure.
Dani wasn't lighting it up last season either, but then it was Marcelo costing us 3 pts. This season Dani said hold my beer.
It's fairly simple. Our team consisted of 6 crucial factors: Keylor - A good GK with amazing reflexes. His decline started in our last UCL win but others stepped up. Ramos - Guy who kept our shitty defense together. Crucial for passing the ball from the back and some crucial goals. Modric - Our main clog. Was carrying a shitty Kroos and running his ass off and being the best middlefielder in the world for 3-5 years Ronaldo - The GOAT for anything UCL related. Marcelo - Was the best LB in the world albeit shaky in the defence but nothing like now. Casemiro - Duh Keylor and Ronaldo are gone, Modric is on his last legs and Ramos can't hold it together anymore since Varane,Marcelo & Carvajal all decided to decline before our 33 yo CB does. Zidane just had to man manage and those 6 would do their job.
Imagine mocking Marcelo for being decent against the same relegation candidates that made Kroos and Courtois look like pub league amateurs.
He's not been decent though. It's just that the standard has been lowered to the point where even showing some kind of effort is considered decent for Marcelo. He's probably the highest paid LB in the league right now.
Was the Man of the match when Rennes beat PSG this season. I think he will end up at PSG to stay in France as a teenager. Real Madrid's sports management team is very attentive to Rennes' 16-year old midfielder Eduardo Camavinga. Real Madrid are observing him at the moment alongside other top-youngsters but he's the one who has drawn the most amount of attention. Imagine saying "the standard has been lowered" all the while defending Kroos and Courtois relentlessly the past two seasons.
I don't think it would matter because we would be a longshot to get him. If we switched Kroos for that kid and Hermoso for Varane we would be so much better right now.... and the crazy part is that kid is basicslly a child and has played like 15 first team matches. He however runs hard, works hard, plays forward passes and attempts to create.
He looks like a real talent. Great defensively, supremely athletic and talented on the ball. Passing looks to need work, but think that is true of every 16 year old. If we are going to be in the business of polishing gems, we need to be very selective and this guy looks worth it
I believe he signed a new contract, so with Pepe going out for 80+ mil, I don't believe the price for this kid is going to be any sort of bargain.
Tell me why a 16 year old would come to Madrid right now? There is absolutely no faith to use them. For that kids career, it would be better to develop elsewhere.
We've got a coach who told a 19 year old "you're younger than my son", we sign this kid and he joins Castilla.
Yet said 19 year old is among the players with the most minutes in the team so far, it’s almost like things aren’t as you’re desperately trying to paint them.
He's 10th in minutes, but everybody under him has suffered one, or multiple longer injuries (Mendy, Jovic, Isco, Modric, Hazard, Valverde). So he's last in minutes from all healthy players along with Lucas Vazquez.
Only injury that’s consequential to him is Hazard’s, so that line of argument is weak; fact of the matter is Zidane has counted on Vinnie despite regarding him as someone who is younger than his son.
