Portland should of kept their original badge! It's not just MLS teams that make the mistake of changing the badge a lot European clubs make mistake of changing their logo, Arsenal and Tottenham new badges are awful. The Arsenal badge looks very cartoon and the Tottenham is far worse than the original.

I think the worst badge in the MLS is Chicago Fires badge what the ******** is it supposed to be? I do like the Crew badge, It reminds me of that old 70's film The Warriors.

The Fire badge is supposed to be reminiscent of a fire department badge, IMHO.

Most MLS fans on here hate the Crew badge with unsurpassed passion.

I understand the other issues, but as far as the rainy issue, it seems that pacific northwest has a climate similar to Ireland and the UK, two of the places in the world where grass grows best and where some of the best pitches can be found.

It's true, we do share similar climates. But when you combine that climate with American football it gets messy and the FO will end up having to replace the pitch far too often.

American football absolutely destroys grass, and since their game doesn't really depend on the natural movement of grass they are able to play on turf just as well without destroying anything. Unfortunately for us, we have to suffer the consequences...

And all for a football team nobody even watches. Seriously the PSU Vikings are the under under underdog of the Oregon American football teams. I see more people in Portland rooting for the Ducks or the Beavers than the Vikings...

Not just that, but there is an actual CREEK 7 feet under the pitch, that should be about 20 feet above it. Water table in that locale is bad.

Science kind of dictates this one. They could probably have a real pitch if they strung the field with grow lamps and a full time crew of 40 field specialists. Also they'd have to boot PSU football and Central Catholic high school football which isn't going to happen. Throw in the water table and it means it isn't likely we're going to have a grass pitch anything soon with the money involved. Unfortunately it's a reality. My sources say there will be at least two grass pitches in constant grow for exhibitions/national team play at all times.

I don't know if this has already been proposed, but is there any kind of organized boycott of buying the new stuff? Personally I think all the fans should keep their current Timbers gear and only buy the USL-looking items and just use that for next season.

No there isn't a boycott. Don't buy it if you don't like it.

In 3 years there will be a nice classics line from Adidas and it will outsell the new logo by a long shot. A year or two after they'll most likely have an updated crest of what there is now and the logo from Hattiesburg will be a long forgotten afterthought.

Really? I mean really? You don't know what that represents? The badge is a very common design for Fire Departments. It's possibly the single most unique and fitting crest in any sport anywhere on the planet.

I wouldn't waste any outrage on this - keep in mind that the guy that hates the Fire logo thinks the Crew logo is just aces. There's just no accounting for taste.

It has nothing to do with taste and everything to do with not having a clue what that symbol is. It's almost as bad as looking at a red octagon and not getting the significance of that.

First of all, my apologies for answering a thread in October that was started in June.

Secondly, I want to thank those who complimented Union's crest design. I liked it the moment i saw it.

Thirdly, I'm glad the old NASL clubs (Seattle, Portland, Vancouver, San Jose) have found another life in MLS. I look forward to our matches.

Now to the crest. I'm one of those who have grown sick of re-designs of classic logos. I think the Timbers logo should stay as it has been and I can relate to folks who are disgusted by ANY nuance being changed. To be honest, I always liked the original logo. The axe and chevrons were one of the best looking crests to come along since I started following NASL a couple of years after the merger. If you have some kind of petition going, I'll gladly sign on.

As someone said earlier in this thread, for a stand-alone franchise this logo would be acceptable. But if I'm a fan who has been with the club since the NASL days, I'd have been booing too.

Aside from all this, welcome to the MLS, and the best of luck.....

    .....until you're playing Philly.
