Since this thread always seems to be about the annoying stuff in the section, I figured I'd share what was a pretty cool story from the top of 138 tonight. Guy who said he was from out of town came into the River End with his young son, and wearing a Sounders jersey. He caught some flak, then Tex made him take it off. So he was shirtless for about 20 minutes. (How he got tix in 138 as an out-of-towner for one game is another issue, let's not go there). A guy in the back row of 138 took off his blue DOOP shirt and gave it to the guy, and then used it as an excuse to go get a white Adu jersey for himself from the shop at halftime. While he was there, he got the little kid a Union T-shirt too. I think they even took a photo together, and the dad bought the guy a beer. We were right behind the dad, and he was totally into the scene and he and his son were very grateful for the guy. Both seemed to have a blast. So if that guy is on Big Soccer, then good on you, man. Very cool. Just thought it was a good story to share, considering all the trash-talk and crap that is usually on this site. Carry on...
I thought 138 started off the game as loud as I've heard it. That first BS goal took the wind out of the sails, but before that place was booming.
That's me that ends up directly next to you. It drives me and the person who sits next to me insane too. It's the one girl that has seats a few rows up but is trying to hit on the guys that sit on the end.
How disturbing can saying clap instead of clapping be if at most 2 people in the section do it? Other than you personally not liking it, is a there a reason not to yell clap instead of clapping where physically clapping is appropriate?
Fine. I'll take her seat and you can all move down one. That way there'll be more space and I don't have to listen to CJL behind me, butchering the songs. Compared to that, the guys with the clap are no prob.
Wen it has nothing to do with the song IE there is no clapping in the song. It is just them being D-Bags. By yelling this and other things during songs that do not have it as well as during the begining of chants so that people can not heard the chants and carry them on they are breaking the SOB code of Conduct. Racists statements are not allowed and they need to stop it. They are there to be problems and are not there to support the Union. Following it up with throwing food and drinks on other peoples seats and loudly yelling out their seat locations and daring people to have them kicked out or to threaten people with physical attacks if they complain.
I don't have a problem with people moving around, but it is getting taken a bit too far. On Satuday, I had people behind me asking before the game "is that seat taken" for the seat next to me where my friend on my account sits. I wasn't sure if he was coming late or couldn't make it so I said it is was my friend's and I wasn't sure if he was coming or not. I was then asked "Well, what do you mean you're not sure? I want to move down." You know what, it is taken, then. Don't ask someone to do you a favor and then be a dick.
We are down to the last two games of the year and it has been a great one here in 138. One thing that we sometimes forget is the hard work of our section usher Tom "Tex" Sharp. He is there every week making sure that we all have a great time. From dealing with people outside of the section who try and cause problems to getting away fans out of the section to hunting down those who drop their season ticket cards and making sure they get it back so they dont have to pay fees he has been a big help to us. These are just a few of the things that he does week in and week out for us. There has been times when the security has held up people from getting into TRE for whatever reason and he has fought for us to get in and personally escorted people from our section in vouching for them. This is not in his job discription nor is attending SOB viewing parties and rooting for the team but he does this. Once again I think we should show our thanks to him for all of his hard work. I would like to pass the hat or bucket if you would like at our next game and ask for some donations. Then as a section to give him an end of the year gift. It can be whatever everyone here thinks is a good idea. From a Visa Gift card to whatever. Just to show him our love and thanks for all he has done for our section this year. We did this last year and I know that it meant a lot to him and it would be a great way for 138 to show him that we care about his hard work for us all year round.
I don't think I'll be able to make it to the DC game, but I'd definitely like to contribute. I should be at the last home game and at NY. How do you want to handle that?
All in for taking care of Tex. I know he cannot take money, I tried last year. I'm not sure about a gift card. Maybe another certificate like last year with at strategically placed envelope on the back of it?
That is what we did last year. Also I was thinking one of the we are 138 shirts. You think he is xxl or xxxl?
Tex is special for a lot of reasons, but there are a couple of other regulars working the section who might be good to recognize in some way. Am I right about that? Does anybody know other names? Do they work under Tex? If he/they can't/won't/shouldn't take money, public recognition involving certificate or "trophy" or the like might be best. And a shirt for sure. Could we get a player to pose with Tex for a picture? Framed to give to him at last match.
