I'm not buyin' it. Wenger is certainly not odds-on to get fired before the end of the season right now, but it's not unthinkable by any means.

Again, they announced a new contract for Jeff Fisher three days before they fired him. More than that, there was the backtalk about yeah, we want to bring him back next year when we're consolidated in LA and new quarterback gets a full training camp as the #1 guy, blah, blah.

But when there's no credibility to do anything else except fire a guy, you fire a guy.

As things stand, there's a tremendous need among the fans and the players both to know that Wenger is not going to be here going forward. On the other hand, there's Wenger's ego and Kroenke's desire to keep Wenger in the job if at all possible. One side or the other has to give. If he's not going to be here next year, what point is there to stay for the remainder of the season?

Yeah this. It reminds me of a number of regular posters here who would push back against Wenger being described as incompetent. What was I supposed to say, he was incompetent.

Maybe but we really didn't need an article to know the things in it anyway. Besides, when were they supposed to leak it? The reason it was topical is because Alexis was benched and that decision probably wasn't made until an hour before game time.

Wenger has been garbage for many years, its just now time to clean the rot. He was great once, give him a statue and send him on his way. Club lacks balls. The whole thing is a fiasco

They weren't supposed to leak it. They were supposed to make a decision and announce it straightforwardly like professionals.

How long have you been an Arsenal fan?

Alexis is a cvnt tho and I do believe that stuff and felt his performance at Bayern was terrible.

Yeah but it sounds pissy to say that you're benching him because he won't sign a contract, which I suspect is the lion's share of what's going on.

The rest of it isn't any better really. Yeah Alexis has tunnel vision, he's not getting on with his teammates and coaches, he doesn't follow the game plan. But, we're still better off playing him than benching him. It's hard to explain that to sound good.

    Basically, what Prince said.

Coordinated press briefings trashing a player are something I haven't seen before. It really only ends by selling Alexis.

He doesn't play within the structure of a team, and then shits on his teammates. It's why Barca sold him. Replacing Alexis with Suarez is how Barca became a juggernaut again, until their midfield turned into one that you'd expect to see at Arsenal.

Here is some action vs Liverpool from our unbeaten 2003-04 season and also those who were worthy enough to don the red and white, sponsored by O2 of course, ENJOY!!! Where the f*** was THIS effort yesterday morning/afternoon??? Not with Olivier Giroud, that's for sure. Invincibles??? Not THIS club, try "Invisibles"!!!

Putting aside the real motivation for the benching, if the guy got into a fight with teammates at training, then say he's on the bench because of an incident at training. No need to say anything about the contract. But this is the guy who subs Alexis rather than sitting him for a full game because he doesn't want to make him mad.

I'm not sure how that's supposed to work. Supposedly we denied that it was because of the failure of contract negotiations, but there's lots of people (including me) who think that was it.

If it were an incident in training, that would be easy enough to say. The problem is, there is no good explanation here. The contract, not understanding or refusing to follow the game plan/team organization, being a negative influence on teammates, all of those things reflect horribly on Arsenal given that Alexis is our best player.

As far gratuitously subbing in Alexis, that's a mistake too, just the other direction. In any event, Wenger has clearly lost the plot here. The key to progress from where we are is that the fans and the players know that Wenger isn't going to be here going forward.

Lol Alexis deserves to be at a club that gives a fvck. Best player we've had since Thierry. I'm sick of his "antics" being seen as "tantrums" or whatever else you wanna call it. Rather have him than some of the spineless, mediocre players we have. A manager who had 12 days to prepare for a match and the best tactics he comes up with is to bench our best player. A owner who can't give a ******** about winning and is truly only running a business. If any team needed an Alexis type it's Arsenal. When we were good we had a bunch of cunts on our team but now he's the bad guy lol. Jokes.

Bullshit. The best Arsenal player since Thierry Henry was RVP, beyond a doubt, not even close.

If he wants to be a leader at Arsenal, sign a contract, make a teammate better, and do what it takes to make the team win instead of hogging the ball and gloryhunting individual numbers.

Otherwise, management is going to tell you what it needs to do to integrate what you can do with the rest of the team as best as possible. It just so happens that our management sucks so we look weak and flailing no matter what we try.

Peak RVP was clearly the best non-Messi non-Ronaldo player in the world.

Alexis and Ozil realised Wenger's project is bullshit

    Just like RvP

Why would Alexis squander his peak on such nonsense?

"The best player since Henry" this is what I said years ago. Wenger killed your spirit so thoroughly by giving you dross for years that when something decent comes along you dont know how to act. Alexis isnt the end all be all its just the misery wenger has brought that makes you cling on to Alexis leg in despair.
