    Yedlin slated to start.

Interesting to see how Benitez plays this one.

For certain the test of the season for Yedlin.

not being disrespectful or anything, but why is this the test of the season for him and not the matches against man city?

Liverpool has been on fire since the turn of the year with the most points of any team and the emergence of Robertson will make Yedlin pretty damn busy.

ManCity for lack of a better word is a less intense, less direct team. Liverpool overloads those isolated fullbacks and relentlessly attacks. ManCity will reset, posses, probe and attack. Liverpool blitzes you for 90min.

    So far so good.

that's one reason, yes (and one I somehow didn't think of), but I don't think salah is individually more dangerous than the combined offensive power of Man City

I still think that Man City has WAY more dangerous players on yedlin's lane than L'pool. Just my opinion

Looks as if Yedlin will be isolated on Mane today and Robertson will overlap. If he doesnt get midfield support it's going to be a long day.

Sure. I wont get into that argument. I was thinking of style of play + quality.

Maybe individually, but Liverpool is constantly moving positionally in the attacking third. Already Yedlin has seen each attacker and then throwing Robertson into the equation will make it one of his more challenging tests. Maybe not THE test of the season.

By the way, Rafa sets them out with a 5 man backline, smart idea. His extra CB covers when the fullback overlaps. Yedlin with a good run and cross that became a weak shot of sorts.

Yedlin did really well to burn Robertson for pace but the cross let him down

Salah attacks the empty space as Yedlin tracks back and draws a mismatch with the CB.

So far, 'Pool has been relatively static. Either NWC took the air out of the ball or liverpool are just having a bit of a slow day.

Yedlin with turnover at midfield. Liverpool immediately on the counter and Mo nearly puts in the shot.

Yedlin had a good sliding challenge to poke the ball Mane...But Liverpool score after Ox dribbles through the CM and Salah exploits the space between the 3 central defenders to score.

    Newcastle down 0-1

Liverpool just too good. Fair play to Rafa in survival mode but you're just not going to get anything off this Liverpool side playing this way.

Nothing really for Yedlin to do in this match. A couple decent long balls, stay organized... try not to get turned inside out by Firmino. The setup dictates he will have very little impact I think.

Almost identical move from the first goal this time Mane splits the CB. Yedlin was trailing but was about to run into Lejeune. Mane score to make it 2-0 Liverpool.

Yeah, those three CB's are too static and Rafa needs to congest the midfield early runs and possession needs to be contested. NWC not fighting enough.

Newcastle are just so poor in the central midfield. They can pass well at times, but most of the time they are Swiss cheese in their positioning and concentration.
