Regular readers of this forum will know that the words... Der Sohn eines US-Soldaten und einer Deutschen ... are German for "CAP HIM NOW!!!" http://preussen-augsburg.de/serendipity/archives/fcaugsburg-Interview-mit-Dominic-Robinson.html He's a '91 with Augsburg's second team. http://www.fcaugsburg.de/jugend/cms/website.php?id=/de/index/teams/u23.htm http://www.fupa.net/teams/fc-augsburg-4016.html
Augsburg are in the hunt for promotion to the 1 Bundesliga. They are currently 2nd (automatic promotion) but are playing right now. They are coached by former 'Gladbach coach Jos Luhukay. However, the 2nd team plays in the Landesliga-Bayern-Sud, which is apparently in the 6th tier of German soccer.
It's odd that a 2.Bundesliga team on the verge of promotion would have a reserve team that low in the German pyramid. Most German clubs in the top two divisions have a reserve team in the Regionalliga.
Yes, or even in the 3. Liga. It doesn't look like Augsburg II is getting promoted this year, and even if they do, it'll take at least two years to get to Regionalliga. Wiki says this:
Now with FV Illertissen (Regionalliga Bayern - 4th tier): http://www.fvillertissen.de/mannschaft1.php 2nd from the left in the back row: 36 minutes so far this season: http://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/en/dominic-robinson/profil/spieler_156766.html @bungadiri - Licensed to Ill: Dominic Robinson at FV Illertissen
Robinson was an unused sub as FV Illertissen opened up their Regionalliga Bayern campaign yesterday with a 3-0 home win over FC Augsburg II. During the 2013/2014 campaign he played 223 minutes for the first making 2 starts and 3 substitute appearances. FV Illertissen finished in 2nd in the Regionalliga Bayern last year which earned them a spot in this year's German Cup. They will host Werder Bremen in the first round.
Except for the second slot for the Bavarian region. Bavarian Cup final last year saw Würzburger Kickers defeat SV Schalding-Heining. The Bavarian representatives in DFB Pokal this year are Würzburger Kickers and SV Illertisen. Both the English and German language versions of Wikipedia say SV Illertisen got in through their position in the Regionalliga Bayern (best placed non-reserve team).
I happened to come across this dated interview with Dominic today. (It's from 2010.) In it, he's asked about other sports he enjoys and mentions American football, which I suppose indicates some level of identification with his American roots. Of course, I know nothing about the guy, so for all I know he's slept in USA PJs since birth. http://preussen-augsburg.de/serendipity/archives/fcaugsburg-Interview-mit-Dominic-Robinson.html
A Google search for a Dominic Robinson from Augsburg turns up what appears to be his Facebook page (lives in Augsburg, "likes" FV Illertissen), on which he lists his hometown as Los Angeles. Might mean he lived there at some point.
I love this thread title, but he's moved to FC Memmingen. Clear eyes, full hearts, arms crossed: http://www.fc-memmingen.de/regionalliga/spieler-portraits?view=employee&id=66
Now with TSV Rain am Lech. https://www.tsv1896rain.de/index.php/fussball/1mannschaft/fussball-kader1m
Dominic Robinson DOB: 27.10.1991 Mittelfeld Listed by his club as a US citizen: https://www.tsv1896rain.de/index.php/fussball/1mannschaft/fussball-kader1m https://www.fupa.net/spieler/dominic-robinson-25327.html Currently with TSV Rain/Lech in the 4th tier of Germany. Spent some time with FC Augsburg and at other similar clubs in Germany. TM says he was born in Germany and has German citizenship (though surprisingly, his current club doesn't list that). Transfermarkt: https://www.transfermarkt.us/dominic-robinson/profil/spieler/156766
He has a nine-year-old thread in main YA, which I guess never got demoted. It has some more background on him and his career: https://www.bigsoccer.com/threads/l...nson-at-fv-illertissen.1722686/#post-23348190
