Noithing much to say other than thanks LeToux! https://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2018...retire-philadelphia-union-join-new-ring-honor http://www.philly.com/philly/sports...ps-new-york-red-bulls-dc-untied-20180507.html
He's gonna be real lonely on that Ring of Honor.............there might not be another eligible player for another 50 years at this rate.
I'm sure lots of us have had personal interactions with Seba and I've never heard any story that didn't show he was a total class act. I remember getting his sig at the stadium opening day when they showed the US-England World Cup game on the big screen. I asked him if he was friends with Robert Pires and he laughed. Though there was a team person hurrying us along, he leaned over for a quick pic with my wife and she treasures it to this day. Even at low-key events like friendlies in Reading, he gave fans loads of time. One poignant moment I will always remember was him sitting in the middle of the pitch alone, watching the fireworks one time... I think the game had been disappointing, and it seemed to me like he knew his time was up. Merci Seba, A bientot.
There are a lot of Seba moments like this that I have heard over the years. He truly seemed to understand that a career has an expiration date and he really savored each and every moment of his. I often saw him during events taking a moment where he just seemed to stop, breathe, and take in everything around him - as if he was constantly filing away memories. It's going to take someone immensely impactful (in a lot of different ways) coming along to remove Seba from the top of my All-Time Favorite Union Player list.
The Press Conference for Seba was fun. I like that they did the whole sign the contract/pose with the jersey for him.
I often thought he was overrated as a Union player. But this is deserved for what he brought to the club.
Back in 2010 I was totally stoked to see the Union for the first time. My then girlfriend (now wife) was a Philly sports fan but had precisely zero interest in soccer. I remember telling her that I was buying a ticket to the first ever Union game and she could come or not but whatever happened I was going. She said she'd go but only because she wanted to support a startup Philly team in a sport she didn't know anything about. Then of course the magic at Lincoln Financial Field happened when Seba scored the first ever Union goal and hat trick. My wife fell in love with the sport after that. Becoming a die hard fan. We've met Seba a few times and each and every single time we met him he was gracious, accommodating, and a genuine person. I remember when they had the meet the team event in XFinity Live he stayed around long after the event was over to meet fans and sign autographs. The Union are a shit organization, but Sebastien Le Toux deserves the accolades he gets from both the team and fans for what he did both on and off the field. There are probably more than a few kids who are fans of the team and sport because LeToux put that extra bit of time and effort to be available for them.
He was always hard working and he was a definite star in MLS 2.0. In his first tenure he was a player that teams always had to be conscious about, and he could pull a goal out of thin air to win a game. Something we haven't had since...
One more story about how great LeToux is. During the stadium preview for ST holders, he was at a table with another player signing autographs. My two sons were getting autographs when my wife heard LeToux's French accent. So, she spoke to him in French even though she was rusty. As we moved on to the next table he said to my son's: Your mother speaks beautiful French. With that he created a lifelong supporter.
There is a rumor there will be Seba bobble heads given away that day. Anyone have confirmation or any other info?
I was also at this game, it's my favorite memory of the Union and why LeToux is one of my favorite players in the history of the league. Also: 50 goals and 50 assists! That's a rare thing. I feel like LeToux was universally loved but kinda underrated as a player.
It's only all over social media. 1006325207319998464 is not a valid tweet id Too bad I'll miss this game. Would be nice to give my Barack Obama/Sammy Davis Jr. lovechild Amobi Okugo bobblehead a friend.
Most clubs would just have bobbleheads for every fan at the gate in honor of the most important player in club history being inducted into the circle of honor. Sugarman? Nah. I'll see you in the team shop.
