France are now in the final straight with less than a year before a home world cup.
Friendlies against Mexico and maybe Australia and the USA are coming up.

8 or 9 starting 11 places are quite settled but loads of places in the squad are up for grabs if the players have a good 2018/19 season.

Torrent, Renard, M'Bock, Majri,Geyoro, Henry, Le Sommer

Goalie place is between Benameur and Bouhaddi atm
Centre forward is wide open with no one good enough so far
Right winger should be Cascarino's if she manages to get the starting spot at Lyon
Playmaker is also wide open, no one making a big claim hence Thiney was called back by Diacre after a while.

here would be their probable starting lineup

    GK.................................Bouhaddi

    Torrent...............Renard.............M'Bock.............Majri

    .................Geyoro.............................Henry

    Cascarino..........................???.......................ELS

    ..........................................???

the question marks are because the two players previous in those spots, Gauvin(FW) & Thiney(AM), weren't called up for the upcoming friendlies. Neither were the youth players from the just completed u20 WC(where the French felt they flopped)

interesting note; it's only been an year & half since they won arguably their most impressive win ever; 3-0 v the Ellis coached team at the 2017 SBC, yet 8 of those starters of that game aren't part anymore of the newer lineups(they either lost favor with the new coach or retired)

but got to hand it to their new coach(Diacre, or called 'the Deacon' in English), she switched the style of play from what used to a midfield possession style to a wait & ruse out the opponent until they open up their defensive safety nets & then quickly exploit by counter attack, which is very similar that the men's team did in Russia.

Wish a certain country that stubbornly resists any changes thanks to their cult of personality leader, Jorgi, will change their tactics too, lol!

The squad for the Mexico game is as follows :

Wendie Renard was injured in a pre-season friendly last week and is replaced by Anaig Butel, Valerie Gauvin is currently injured.
Regarding the U-20, the FFF remembers what happened to Cascarino after the 2016 U-20 WC when she was immediately promoted to the Seniors and got a long term injury because of tiredness etc.

Wow, not sure how many people the stadium in Amiens could contain, but judging by the views of the standings and, especially, by the roar of the crowd, it had to be packed!

It's nice to see (and especially to hear: as in the action of Diani's goal) such good attendences in women's football, they create an unusually exciting atmosphere. :)

I hope next year at least the local French crowds (if not fans coming from overseas) will fill the venues with supporters and the WWC will be a success. By the way, which WWC was the record-one in terms of attendences and how much the average attendences were there? Was it Germany 2011? :cautious:

8 800 fans yesterday. Corinne Diacre was interviewed at hal-time and was really unhappy. A better second half but still...
I think she asks a lot of the players and many of them are not good enough.
No quality depth in the team.

Wow--love the design of the Amiens stadium, based on the brief shots from the training and game-highlights video that I've seen. Is it new(ish)?

The Mexico keeper made two bonehead plays in the game--coming way too far out on what became the first and last France goals. On the first one, she must have been some 25 yards out from the goal line--well beyond the 18-yard box! Dumb. The last one wasn't at bad, but she was still way out and would have been better to stay in net, especially as she had three teammates/defenders running back into the box when she ventured out. Of such decisions games are won and lost. Mexico would have lost anyway, but it might have been a closer game.

Corinne Diacre has announced she will have Sarah Bouhaddi as her number one goalie at the WC.
She will carry on testing players and brought a returnee and a new one to bring competition to players, mainly the back-up and fringe ones.

The squad for the Brasil friendly :

First call-up for Katoto following a disastrous U-20 and all the internal problems she allegedly created.
The U-20 coach had so some strong words against some un-named squad members who did not do well during the tournament.

He also mentioned some teams were ready to field a player the day after the 3rd place play-off as a problem. Only one team actually had planned to play one of the U-20 player the next day in the League, giving her no rest time actually unlike her other club team-mates.

Could you link me to some article? I would be interested in reading the coach's exact words (article in French are ok since it's a language I can comfortably read).

Is the team you refer to PSG?

I was expecting Cascarino to finally become a starter on the right winger side. But being send back to the B team??? Didn't see that coming, as it feels kinda humiliating

Her performances level in training and in games with the NT have not been great. And Laurent seem to be the flavour of the last few months. Asseyi who is also competing with Cascarino and Laurent has also been sent to the B team.
