You can build up calcium deposits in your bones by hitting trees and stuff but they friggin guy just has to go anywhere where he can get regular playing time. His career is in jeopardy right now.

It's pretty obvious he has the skills that many of our NT players dont have. We shouldnt give up on this guy just yet..

sure but he's not fully baked yet and by sitting on the bench, he's not getting a chance to get there.

A friend of mine is a dedicated muay thai fighter. He used to kick trees to strengthen his shins. I had my doubts as to how effective that is but whenever he'd join in for soccer, he'd be the only one on the pitch without shin guards. Not that we played serious slide tackling soccer but you could tell this guy had shins of steel.

I'm assuming that might be the same concept LSW is going for.

Watched the whole match after his okay outing against Bologna. My take on Lee today:

positives - tried to play a bit of quick one-twos

negatives - he can't dribble for sh*t. So easily dispossessed by Sassuolo defenders, and they were pretty sh*t themselves. Also attempted one long pass, which was Hellas Verona-class

He's not much worse than the team, but definitely not an improvement either.

Think he had a few touches, quick touch-and-go, but his vision seems limited by his (lack of) skills at the moment.

Maybe Serie B would be a better environment for him to develop for now.

disagree on the "lack of" skill part. his strength is obviously the quick one-two touch and go but he just started playing games again. he needs a bit of time, also.. not helped by his teammates just standing around (one sequence had the defender bring the ball out & the movement in front of him were so awful.. he didn't have anyone to pass it around but force himself to move the ball to opposition half only for him to get dispossessed easily).

edit - on the dribbling part.... i viewed it as more of him forcing himself (thus, getting trapped or outnumbered).

That's what training sessions are for. It's not as if he plays once a week with the team. He's just not good enough to take on players at the moment, like he used to in the youth teams. Plus he doesn't help himself by standing around too. Similar to Danzi who made his senior team debut today.

Plus talking about standing around, when Petkovic created that one good chance for Fares, Lee's movement was pretty bad, and in general he's not helping himself with his positioning too.

Difficult to get rid of the rust & gain "match" fitness from training sessions.. especially when you add if he was truly injured as claimed by his father.

As for his dribbling ability, yes.. his success % compared to his youth days are low but that shouldn't prevent him from constantly attempting it either. It is part of his game & one of his strength. This is his 1st year as 1st team player.... not to mention, he isn't exactly helped by the fact he doesn't really fit well in this team.

Anyways, Hellas Verona is painful to watch. A team full & built on players on loan from other teams.. you can easily tell this team has absolutely zero chemistry nor do players give a damn about the club imo. Each individual are playing for themselves... of which, Lee SW is sort of doing the same to survive (but it has backfired on him as he dribbles into congestion often)..

I am quite impressed by LSWs last two games. Of course there are plenty of things he could improve at, but he has still got his moments and if he gets more playing time and can adjust better to the pro level football, I still believe he can get a key player for us. IMO he should move to a team/league where his skills can shine better. Never seen a team playing as shite as Verona actually.
