Thanks for starting the thread again! I wanted to contribute this week, but I couldn't find anything to say about this game.

Revs are on short rest so if there's ever a chance to grind out a Bennyball 1-0 robbery on the road, it's probably now.

NER is almost as butt as we are, and we're going to need to get points on the road at some point. Bad news: Looks like we're going in pretty wounded. IF we get a first-half goal, we may be able to hold them to one in the midst of a second-half shelling and get out with a point.

    But I think it's 0-2.

We've had New England's number since 2012 (2013 not counting for obvious reasons). So we've got that going for us.

Hopefully Mullins can play a part and exact some revenge

I don't see any way with that lineup we can get points on the road -- actually kinda doubt it at home. Any update on Birnbaum? Have we had any week yet with our starting 11 all ready to go?

I'd put Vincent in if he's ready to go instead of Ortiz and play a 4-1-4-1 and hope to hell we get some outside shots off the transition.

This is going to be a rough week if all goes well. If we were playing a good team we'd be toast, but at least on paper this team is much weaker than NE right now. Bummer.

And to be clear, you're saying to put Vincent in as a lone striker.......?

Kraft adopted the Revs and loves the Patriots more. And if all hope hinges on a mediocre at best Birnbaum returning, they might as well just put some help wanted ads in the Italian sports papers and hope there's a couple of unemployed defenders willing to pack fast and travel far

You sir have no appreciation for the artistic inspiration necessary to elevate a soccer broadcast to a cinematic masterpiece.Short answer-No

At this point if I see a soccer ball, 22 players and 3 refs I consider myself ahead of the game.

I don't think Birnbaum is mediocre -- and he is key to this team.

And to the other question, I'd put LeToux up front and Vincent in the middle somewhere. We'll need to gum up the works and that seems to be a strength of his...

I haven't heard that Vincent is back in training. Assuming Nyarko is not available, I would sit Ortiz and have Le Toux and Neagle start. If Mullins can go, he takes the Ortiz position and either Le Toux or Neagle fills in at LW. Also, I would start Jeffrey over Marcelo.

Hadn't heard anything in Vincent either, but Goff didn't mention him at all in his injury article this week so I assumed he was back.

Suppose also it could be though because he's been out and there is no news he didn't warrant being written about

A Venn diagram of what you're describing and an ASN broadcast of a DC United game would not overlap.

If United soccer was a chastity belt and Birnbaum the key, no one gets laid this season. He makes the most of mediocrity on a team that can't play to a level above poor.

Maybe we're thinking of different guys. He was in the running for serious time with the national team, which you might also think is crap, but I think isn't bad. His form of late hasn't been wonderful, but you're describing way more people before Birnbaum on DC with your analogy.

Remember he's holding up BB (who's as old as RFK stadium), NDL who is still learning how to be mediocre at a 4th position, and Kemp or Franklin. This would make anyone who needed to play team defense (like DC) look bad.

Just gonna have to disagree on this one.

BTW, a chastity belt keeps the balls away from the goal. If you're saying our defense is anemic, might want to go with the tried-and-true crotchless panties analogy instead. ;-)

We did pretty well at the end of last season with much the same roster. This season, I feel like we're like an airplane trying to take off, dropping critical parts every 100 yards along the runway...

Which is exactly why we start out the following season floundering and making last minute dumpster dives into the MLS CastOff dustbins.

It isn't like we have a pile of 23 year olds coming back as 24 year olds. We have 30 year olds coming back playing like 40 year olds.

No I don't think the USMNT is crap, and he may have been in the running but then they looked at the guys with last names beginning with C-Z and his race was over. It would be nice if the key or cornerstone or whatever of the United squad actually was good enough to represent but in this case nope. I'll agree to disagree.

I agree about the plane dropping parts and making the playoffs and advancing in the playoffs are 2 different things. I can't explain making it but the reasons for crashing out were clear

Have you looked at our roster? Lots of old guys, but also lots of young guys.
