Klinsmann has apparently kicked Fabian Johnson out of camp today for the Costa Rica match, as they seem to be having a major philosophical disagreement. Brian Sciaretta @BrianSciaretta 10m10 minutes ago Jurgen Klinsmann: "I had a very severe word with Fabian Johnson, and I sent him home today." Brian Sciaretta @BrianSciaretta 9m9 minutes ago Fabian Johnson was sent home today from the #usmnt. Klinsmann felt he was not injured. Wanted to use last sub for Rimando for PKs vs Mexico Brian Sciaretta @BrianSciaretta 10m10 minutes ago Klinsmann on sending Fabian Johnson home: "He can rethink his approach about his team." Things are happening. Notably, this is the first open sign of disagreement, ever, between the German-American contingent and Klinsmann. I assume this is from a Costa Rica pre-match press conference at Red Bull Arena.
Well then. Aside from the continued stupidity of wanting to save that sub for Rimando, this is a thing worth watching.
Not sure what this is all about, Johnson doesnt want to play fullback anymore? Johnson wants to focus more on his club career? Klinsmann wants to make a lesson of a guy who took himself out of a huge game? Definitely nothing good though.
Klinsmann is doing a tremendous job wrecking our NT. He's done just about all he could to make our team bad and when he likely goes when we are struggling to qualify for the WC, he'll have chased away arguably our best player.
im as disenchanted with JK as anyone, but fabian johnson did not look like the USAs most talented field player. maybe thats because hes out of his preferred position, but he certainly had a rather pedestrian performance
Let the scapegoating begin! Never, ever, EVER is anything the fault of the guy who is, you know, actually in charge of the entire national team program. So now all of a sudden we're concerned with the approach players take to the US team? And Fabian is the guy we choose to scapegoat? Somewhere Timmy Chandler is having a laugh.
Such pathetic leadership. He's running out of scapegoats. Who's next that hasn't already been called out at some point?
FJ is just about the consensus best player in the pool now isn't he? Now he and Klinsman are on the outs. Klinsman's detractors can't point to him being a "coddled MLS player without pressure" or not "challenging himself" or any of that BS that was so conveniently pointed to with LD and others. This has got to be the beginning of the end for Klinsman.
Our 5 best players are probably Bradley, Dempsey, FJ, Jones and Altidore. He's now openly feuded with two of them.
I'm just waiting for one of the core players to announce their retirement from the national team so that they can focus on their club career.
If you don't include Jermaine Jones in the Gold Cup. Personally I don't mind Jürgen taking issue with Fabian. He had a notably poor game, and I can understand questioning his commitment. But making this public? He's running out of players who have not been publicly shamed and blamed at some point, while at every single turn ducking all criticism leveled in his general direction.
I think you are missing some of his feuds. He's feuded with Donovan, Dempsey, Altidore, FJ and Besler. There are rumors of feuds with Cameron and Gonzalez.
Klinsman has lost the plot. The sooner he is gone the better off we will all be. If anyone on our team has been the cunsumate professional and top performer for us its Fabian freaking Johnson.
