Could be Arena is trying him in multiple spots to see if he can be a utility guy that can fill in in any attacking midfield position. That's a useful guy on a tournament team.

He admitted he was in the offseason and out of shape.

Was really looking forward to seeing him for the Nats in the Gold Cup...

Guess I'm Gent to have to check out his play via club football.

He went 90 mins on may 21st, 40 man roster named on June 3rd, and his one time switch approved on June 22. Very weird to go through all that and not be in shape. Maybe Besler gave him some offseason fitness advice?

Very disappointed. This may jeopardize his chances.

It may but I doubt it. He plays a position with zero depth. He will get more chances.

My Druze friends from Beirut love Lebanon, but for what it's worth, they now live in the US even though the could live practically anywhere.

I learned, from playing soccer with minorities of every race and creed for longer than most my fellow BSers have been alive, that there is hardly a better country in the world for minorities of any race or creed than the US.

That is so true. I have played with so many people from other countries that it would be very hard for me to remember one country that I didn't.

USA/Canada/Australia have taken on the English desire to syncretize (after all, England has been a hodge podge of ethnic groups since the Roman times) as a means to achieve greater knowledge, without the English pervasive notion of bred-in class. The results are good, up to a point.

Bruce said on Thursday Kenny was carrying a slight injury into camp but was unable to get past it after joining the team

He said he and the team's staff felt it was best Kenny returned to his club to get healthy - and put himself into a position for future call-ups

Interesting google translate on the topic.

Kenny will be out for at least 7 weeks in recovery after completing his surgery.

He will miss the entire preseason and start of the season for Gent and has probably no chance of being involved in the September qualifiers.

This is such a bummer :(

    Yikes

According to the report, the infection spread to his abdomen and is still not under control yet.

He's out several more months. His WC chances aren't dead, but they took a huge, huge hit. It's very unlikely

Beyond soccer, this sounds scary. Hope get gets well soon.

Frightening. Hopefully they control the infection ASAP.

That sounds like negligent post-surgical care.

It seems his hernia happened during his 20' in the Ghana game:

    http://sbisoccer.com/2017/08/kenny-saief-hospitalized-after-infection-from-hernia-surgery

The hernia injury Kenny Saief suffered during the U.S. Men’s National Team Gold Cup tune-up against Ghana has taken an unfortunate and scary turn. [...] Saief suffered the injury during his international debut for the USMNT after completing a one-time FIFA switch from Israel, having represented that team at all youth levels and in two friendlies at the senior level.

    ----

Why so many bad injuries happen during international duty? No wonder the clubs complain so much.

He arrived in USMNT camp injured & tried to play through it. I don't believe the hernia happened at the Ghana game

He came to camp out of shape and pushed himself so hard he got a hernia. Sounds like the player's fault.
