I've never rated Southgate. Far to negative for me despite the raves he got from the media after the World Cup. Mainly for his waistcoat. Today there was a good game going until England score from a PK in the 32nd minute then they park the bus to try and and ride out that one goal. F'kin stupid. They did hold by desperation until the 73rd minute when DeLigt puts in a header from a corner. Hendo and Lingard come on and liven the game up, Hendo with some lovely passing. Then England have a lovely goal turned down by VAR. offside by all of 2". Eventually!!! Then the more var shit when holland called for handball PK. After a while! Quite a while it was call no foul. Added on time was 7 minutes. Before extra time. Thats when the wheels came off as Stones. (ManU) manages to lose a simple ball in the area. A good save from a one on one from Pickford who pushed the ball is loose in the area again and Walker. (ManC) manages to steer it into his own goal. Then Barlkley takes the ball in his area and passes a nice ball to a Dutch player. Who squares it across for a tap in. Pickford was having a fit. Negative football will get you negative results.
Germany = decent but Sweden, Colombia and Croatia (in the Nations League) are not? Not defending Southgate but your (reference's) logic is flawed.
Andy Robertson for Scotland. What a goal. Get in! https://t.co/zT3hOjn1Op— Gareth Roberts (@robbohuyton) June 8, 2019
Both TAA and Gomez start for England today, in the Most Meaningless International Game of the 21st Century.
As meaningless as it is, it gives me something to watch. Shaq playing good. Shaq and Gomez could actually benefit from some competitive matches.
Trent has had some fantastic crosses today. Kane continues his post up and fall on the opponent move he's so famous for.
and they are England's top rated players according to the BBC poll https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/48570701 Southgate will have another bonus when the dust settles on England's ultimately unfulfilling Uefa Nations League finals. That came in the performances of Liverpool duo Trent Alexander-Arnold and Joe Gomez, who played in a manner which suggested they are more than ready to become a regular part of England's starting line-up. Alexander-Arnold gave a superb performance at right-back, not only completing admittedly rare defensive duties but giving a masterclass of the attacking side of the game. The 20-year-old who won the Champions League with Liverpool in Madrid, provided a stream of quality service and his all-round display was in contrast to the sloppiness of his main rival for a starting place, Kyle Walker, in England's two games here in Portugal. It was a surprise when he was switched to the left to accommodate Walker's arrival as a substitute. Gomez, whose season was curtailed by a broken leg sustained at Burnley and was only a substitute when Liverpool enjoyed their glory in Madrid, also showed he will soon be pushing his way to the front of the queue of England's central defenders. Gomez has pace, power and composure and Southgate must hope he now enjoys an injury-free run because he can become a formidable presence at the heart of England's defence.

They were both outstanding. Alexander Arnold's delivery from wide was a joy to behold while Gomez pretty much won all his duels.
I was surprised that England couldn't do better against the Swiss. Kane and Ali have shot their bolt. Chances were few even with the crosses TAA put in and wasted by that pair. Sterling was another off his game. Despite that there was some good football played. What sucked the air out of the game was the monotonous, droning, snide and sarcastic comments from the comms. Especially that twit Twelman!! Master of the obvious.
My fear for England is that Kane is going to be the new Rooney. He's going to ride high off one tournament's performance (WC 2018, even though it was mostly PKs) and no manager will have the balls to bench him, not matter how feckless he plays.
Could have that issue with any superstar. I've never been a huge fan of Kane but he's definitely proven me wrong/// I never thought he would be this effective when he first broke through.
an over-hyped athlete with the IQ of a bootlace and the personality of a 2x4 ... who insists on getting credit for goals his teammates score .... not sure if it's possible to be too tough.
