here we go again ... https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/45855475 Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk will miss the Netherlands' friendly with Belgium on Tuesday with a rib injury. The Dutch Football Association said the centre-back, 27, is still suffering from the injury he sustained in Liverpool's Premier League win against Southampton on 22 September. Van Dijk scored the opening goal as the Dutch beat Germany 3-0 on Saturday in the Nations League. Reds forward Mohamed Salah left Egypt's squad on Saturday with a muscle strain. Liverpool's next game is at Huddersfield on Saturday, 20 October.
https://www.independent.co.uk/sport...ne-mohamed-salah-liverpool-news-a8583746.html Dejan Lovren has pleaded for patience for every player who played in the latter stages of the World Cup saying that “everyone is struggling” with slowly getting back up to speed, and that England’s players are still reacting to the disappointment of not reaching the final.
Gomez will start for England vs Spain tomorrow. FFS stay healthy, Joe ...... (my guess is TAA will start as well.)
England up 3-0 at the half against Spain. No Hendo, Gomez at CB. England just sitting back killing them on the counter. Busquets looks off the pace.
I'm getting worried about VVD. I fractured a rib in March. It took a long time to heal, and it still bothers me today. And I'm not playing a physical game in which people are constantly banging into me (and probably "inadvertently" throwing the occasional elbow at my rib). I haven't seen any suggestion that VVD's injury is more than a bruise. But bruised ribs hurt like heck too, and they need to be given any opportunity to heal.
just after reading your post I came across this .... he has 2 broken ribs apparently. Virgil van Dijk, the Liverpool defender, has played with two broken ribs for several weeks, according to the Netherlands head coach Ronald Koeman. The 27-year-old completed 90 minutes and scored in Saturday’s 3-0 Nations League victory over Germany but will play no part in their friendly against Belgium on Tuesday night. https://www.independent.co.uk/sport...injury-sadio-mane-mohamed-salah-a8586486.html
Yeah, one upshot of having a deep bench is the speed at which players will "recover" from injuries to make sure they can keep their starting places... Does put added pressure on the medical staff to know when said player really needs to be rested though.
With it mentioned in the media by Koeman, watch how opposition managers ask their players to intentionally target the ribs. Great stuff!
This is ridiculous. Something has to be done about these meaningless (yes that includes glorified friendlies dressed up as "Nation's League" and qualifiers against Swaziland) international games.
so that means .... Salah Virgil Mane Keita .... all injured in the same week, playing totally meaningless international games. we need to start playing the "oh sorry, he just got injured yesterday" game. thinking about this though: what are the odds that 4 starters would all get injured in a week, playing club games? I can't recall that ever happening. what is it about internationals????
Carried off is the operative phrase. There was not a stretcher so his teammates apparently carried him off the pitch.
Bobby and Alisson play the full 90 vs Argies today. Fab came on just after HT. No injuries (AFAIK) thank god. Wij on the bench for Belgium, didn't play.
