Re: Klinsmann remains popular despite winless team

LOL! It's nice to know that this never gets old.

All we can do is wait for the next U-20 qualifiers to begin, only then we will see what we have.

I've made this point in the past...in general, it's called "soccer" in former British colonies that are mostly white (Canada, the US, Australia's team is called the Socceroos not the Footballeroos, etc.) In African colonies, it's called football.

My guess is that that's because other codes of football are more popular in the white colonies than in the African colonies, so calling the sport "football" in Australia is confusing, while calling it "football" in Ghana is clarifying.

There has certainly been a racial divide historically. In South Africa, the whites played rugby and the blacks played football.

While we're at it can we stop calling the field a "pitch"?

Lol...I was referring to Big Soccer posters in general that call it "matches" - not really related to any specific nationality.:)

Klinsis 2nd win in the 7th game only attracted little attention over here. Maybe cause it was just Slovenia. Maybe because of Germany's outclassing of Holland later on that evening.

If the German public was hanging on the every move of the US, I'd be surprised to say the least.

I doubt that...why would that be a topic of interest here?

I think he is refering to Germany, I believe Germany beating Holland does wonders for confidence of SOCCER fans in Germany. ;)

He was saying Germany's beatdown of the Dutch is one of the reasons our beating Slovenia didn't make any waves in Germany.

Personally, I don't give a rat's ass about what kind of news it makes in Germany.

I hope no one else here does either.

Our team and our coach aren't there to please the Germans.

Their own team is doing that well enough.
