And you know what's even better? Jimenez had a good game. Good to see that we have quality creative midfielders in this team.

Medel played his heart out, but between Perez, Arevalo and Pereira he was overwhelmed.

Suazo shouldn't start again. :( He's not 100% and it shows.

I agree on Jimenez! He seems to have a nose for the ball, he seems to in the action all the time, and yes sadly I agree on Suazo, he just doesn't seem to have "it" right now.

So far, Elo Ratings got it right: they got Chile as #8 in the world, with 1883 points; while they have Uruguay as #11 with 1850.

A difference of 33 points predicts a tie, with Chilean dominance. Which is exactly what we saw.

FIFA has Chile at #27 and Uruguay at #18, further evidence that it is a flawed system.

    paso a paso amigo

All in all a fair result for both teams, all things considered:

-both teams had very good chances (about the same amount in fact)
    -both teams hit the crossbar
-both teams had an iffy Pk called waved off.

A very entertaining and electrifying affair for everyone, specially for the neutrals.

    chill, baby, chill

Did anyone not see this when Uruguay scored? Contreras run in the net to the goal line seeing that Ponce left his man to double team with Isla I thought Contreras should marked the man in the middle (which Ponce left to double team with Isla) instead of going to the line of the net......Jara has his man marked but was left with 2 options one stay with the man that he has because it may be a high cross option two mark the man in the middle where the two other defenders were at fault (which Ponce left to double to double team with Isla and Contreras standing at the line of the goal for a good a few seconds with the middle open in front of him........)

Contreras' role is always to go to the line in situations like that, which is why he was able to get one off of the line in the first half.

Jara played the ball coming in horribly on the Uruguayan goal and its primarily his fault. Then it was Ponce, not Contreras, who messed up by leaving his man to double mark the dude with the ball....he was already being covered and could clearly only cross it in, Ponce left his man alone in the middle to do double team (which was a mistake)

mistakes, however, are part of the game and its good that at least the goals we've allowed are avoidable. We have, without a doubt, the best midfield in the tournament and with a little more 'finiquito' we should be alright

Yep, it was Ponce's mistake. Had an ok game overall, but he left Hernandez unmarked in that play by running at Suarez... at the end he was left inbetween both players with nothing to do.

Contreras was our best defender by far but he still makes mistakes like that in that play where he cleared the ball almost at the goal line... like I said, defensively we have to improve A LOT if we are going to attack like that every game.

    Caceres no juega tampoco(doble amarilla)
Me imagino a Pereira ahi, Godin estara pronto?

(Long winded I apologize in advance)

Uruguay goal was almost offside if Jara had step up for a second. All 3 defenders were terrible (We can pinpoint every shot Uruguay made including the one that hit the crossbar who's man was that?) and all three should be held responbile which ever way you slice it but I see Jara as the scapegoat that unmarked man was miles away from him as he came in the box marking his man. Contreras needs to adjust to his role seeing an unmarked man he just ran by him (Ponce's man-right away during the game I said to myself why didn't Contreras stay with him?) and off he went to the line of the goal for the 3rd time, he could have prevented the receiving pass from the Uruguayan dude that beat the double team of Isla and Ponce. If Jara was on the same page as Contreras role was to be he should have run to the middle to cover (knowing Contreras role) that unmarked man, it sounds like they are having communication issues playing together at the back. Yes there were a couple of instances during the game where Contreras judgement was good when clearing the line, Contreras happen to be on the goal line three times in total what is going on back there? 3 men at the back need to cover 3 men attcking. Chile almost had an own goal (Medal I think) as well but Contreras cleared it on two of the three times he was at the goal line.

The three man defense need to get their game right and communication right to avoid the confusion that resulted in Uruguay's goal. Isla losing the ball in the box on a loose play may be the root cause but there were two man on Isla from that cough up while everyone else watched the play go on (It sure is easy to say). Yes the defense needs to improve and we have them they need to shout orders to each other when moving out of position or moving to mark another man.

I guess Bravo should have yelled at Contreras to get his ass to cover the middle man the ball had to have cross and the middle needs to be covered. Medal was really nowhere in the play but the right defensive side was vacant (Uruguay was coming down the middle)and as I recall its Contreras on the right Ponce in the middle and Jara on the left (unless there suppose to be 4 at the back at that time). All 3 need need to be held responible as all 3 were out of position and they seem to juggle positions at the back with their own plan seeing Isla at the back then seeing Medal at the back as a 4 man defense which I read in one of the posts above in this thread that during the game Chile looked they were play a 4 man defense on certain times.

Let's get it together we win together, we tie together and we lost together VAMOS CHILE!

We expect to win one game at a time but we cannot expect to keep a clean sheet at all times. Goals is what wins the game (everyone knows that) and we do have that offensive punch to make up for a goal against or two.
