True story: My best friend went to Denmark in a student exchange program and being a small country and so few exchange students he met all the latin exchange students there.

One of them was a Mexican and he cataloged him as a Tronco playing soccer. Nonetheless the Mexican guy tried for the school, and in two months he was playing first division. This wasaround the late 80s when Denmark had their golden generation.

There’s also the story of Carlos Kaiser...

Different times but still, your premise is not necessarily correct.

And he goes 90 finally, good sign he is peaking at exactly the right time to not just get to Russia but to contribute meaningfull minutes. I want both Cardona and Quintero on the roster, more players that can pass and keep possession and find players in space.

Maybe we pay too much attention to Quinteros history. He has always let us down, but right now he is focused and playing very well. Who knows how long his good form will last but why not be happy he is doing well? A few months ago I would never have thought he could be part of la seleccion but right now I have nothing against him playing in Russia. The Argentine league is good enough to draw conclusions imo.

It makes sense, there was so much hope for him and he's basically done nothing for 4 years. For whatever reason it hasn't worked for him and for whatever reason its working now and just in time for the World Cup. The guy in terms of talent on the ball has always been with James the only elite guys we have, he's a next level talent and if he's fit and firing for the World Cup he can be a big asset. But it makes sense people are gun shy based on his unfulfilled promise so far.

I don't necessarily agree with most of the guys here, but the point is he needs to show something different than what he's done in the past.

I've always been a fan of Quintero, I still think that there are very few players in América with his vision and passing accuracy, and I'd go as far as to say that he is one of the most Creative midfielders in the world. My problem with him is that he is a shithead. He has wasted 5 years of his career because he lacks discipline.

I'm very Happy for him, especially since he's played his first full game for River, but who knows how long this will last. Maybe after the WC he once again disappears and in 2021 starts playing well again.

It would suck for his career but as a Colombia fan as long as he shows up and plays at the World Cup I'll take it. The World Cup and his recent hard work could catapult his career back on track, I'm not gonna hold my breath for that but I will enjoy such a creative and talented player while he is on form.

That's the thing, he isn't even injury prone, since Mera broke his leg when he was 17 years old I think he hasn't has any major injuries, and in my opinion he is very strong willed and regular despite being sort of fragile physically, what's keeping Him from being a regular for the NT is himself.

The problem with a lot of wunderkinds is that since they’re very very young people keeps talking shit into their heads, and unfortunately for a lot of them, they end up believing they’re invincible.

Quintero has all the talent in the world but so far he has not been putting much effort and still comes ahead. Maybe Argentina and River are providing the right environment and/or maybe having a coach that sees a little of him in the young man is what was lacking.

Anyways, is a good thing he has shown consistency and that he is using this new opportunity; in the next weeks River has two tough matches against San Lorenzo and Flamengo, hope he shows similar level of play against more difficult teams.

Its the Quintero thread, that's all there is to do here! Its exciting because his game is exciting and because no one can deny he's a special talent. Also being raised on El Pibe I think most Colombians have a special appreciation for players who can dominate a game through their passing. Quintero is exciting when he's on his game, and personally I love to see the game played like that.
