My how things can change in a week. All due respect to Chicharito, but right now you can certainly argue Altidore is the best striker in CONCACAF. No, he doesn't play for a huge club in Manchester United, but then again Chicharito doesn't really play for them either. I'd say Jozy scoring in Rio Tinto is likely, while I believe Chicharito hasn't scored so far in the Hex. You might argue that he hasn't gotten service, but that was Jozy's problem for awhile too.

I put my vote for this small team player named Carlos Vela.

Let's all guess how much crack the OP smoked before starting this thread.

In before someone goes on for 3 paragraphs about how good Chicharito is.

Altidore playing like this I would take in heartbeat over Chicharito.

Jozy's not the best, but neither is Chicharito.

Chicharito seemed mostly interested in trying to convince Bryan Ruiz that he should take missiles to the temple.

Watch out, Chicharito fans may have a different say on this.

Chicharito is a poacher. Not much of anything else. He will always be a bench player at big clubs.

Altidore is becoming a complete forward. He'll get a nice summer transfer I think.

Vela doesn't play as a central forward. I wouldn't say he is the best player in the region out right either.

The best player in the region right now is Michael Bradley. Hands down. No contest, no argument.

Edit: actually, feel free to argue. I'd like to see arguments for players that play consistently better for both club and country.

I agree. There more names than people think that are in contention. Just to say it's Vela outright is ignoring that.

So its settled, Bradly is the best striker/forward in concacaf. Neat.

Very true. Honestly, to me, Vela isn't even eligible for the conversation. He doesn't play in Concacaf. That would be like including Holliet because he can play for Canada or Jamaica. And the best player to come from the Concacaf region, without the restriction of having to actually play for a team in the region, is Subotic. So either way, under either set of criteria, Vela isn't even in the conversation.

The post I quoted said best player, not best striker.

I'm sorry if your expectation of Bigsoccer is that the threads always stay on topic. They almost never do. The thread is about the best striker. The specific quote I posted used the terminology "best outright player".

Well, I clarified that Vela isn't really a striker in my eyes and added that the calls as him as the best player in the region are premature.

On best form... for sure. Not the best overall. He's got some work to do to get there.

Who called him the best player in the region? So what is Vela, I take it you watch the man play?

Jozy is really making everyone he plays with better right now. His hold up and combination play has been superb. I don't see this from Hernandez at the moment. He's in the place where Jozy had been not long ago - starved for service and on an island.
