JORDAN has been confirmed by the FIFA #ExCo as host of the FIFA U-17 Women‘s World Cup 2016.— FIFA Women's World Cup (@FIFAWWC) December 5, 2013
a little surprised by this. was expecting Ireland to host this with South Africa getting the U-20 WWC 2016.
This just screwed over one of the Korean teams, China, Japan, or Australia, since AFC will now only get two of them in (instead of three).
I think CAF should lose a spot based on their poor qualifiying efforts. I see the allocations will likely be: Hosts: 1(Jordan) UEFA: 3 CAF: 2 CONCACAF: 3 CONMEBOL: 3 AFC: 3 OFC: 1(New Zealand)
Won't happen. As long as it's a 16 teams tournament the allocation will be three teams per confederation + New Zealand.
Nigeria and Ghana can be very competitive in these youth tournaments, but everyone else from Africa can't even kick a ball to a teammate in these tournaments. I have better aim on my passing skills with tiddly winks.
FIFA circulaire 1428 says allocation is AFC : 2 slots CAF : 3 slots CONCACAF : 3 slots CONMEBOL : 3 slots OFC: 1 slot UEFA: 3 slots Host: 1 slot (Jordan)
No surprise. Including the host nation, It's always 3 teams per each confederation, and 1 team from OFC. The host nation takes one of the spots away from the confederation they are from (in this case Jordan from AFC). 2016 U-17 WWC AFC: Japan, North Korea, Jordan (Host) CAF: Nigeria, Ghana, Cameroon CONCACAF: USA, Canada, Mexico CONMEBOL: Brazil, Colombia, Venezuela UEFA: Germany, Spain, Netherlands OFC: New Zealand *Netherlands is getting much better at the younger youth levels (as is Spain who is always a Euro power at U17). **UEFA deserves 4 teams in, with CAF at 2. France would be my 4th team in from UEFA.
Venezuela has a very competitive team . The u-15 team is now in the Youth Olympic Games Nanjing 2014 with one of the best players , Deyna Castellanos. Venezuela almost qualified to U- 20 Women World Cup Canada 2014 , but we lost an imporant game against Colombia (2-0) and Brazil ( 3-2) . we won against Uruguay (4-1) and Chile (3-1). The other group was easier, and Paraguay was in it with Bolivia, Ecuador, Peru and a very weak Argentina.
The full schedule has been disclosed by FIFA, it is here. Games to be played in Amman, Irbid and Al Zarqua
Update from FIFA : The FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup Jordan 2016 official match schedule has been confirmed, with the host nation set to feature in the opening match on 30 September 2016. FIFA and the Local Organising Committee (LOC) are pleased to announce the match schedule, which is now available on FIFA.com, following the approval of FIFA’s Executive Committee. Over the course of 22 days, 16 teams will play a total of 32 matches across four stadiums. The Amman International Stadium will provide the setting for the opening match, as well as the final match on 21 October 2016.
AFC Qualification in November. The 2 semi-final winners go through. Australia U-16 didn't even get to the last 8
yeah, it's really not fair how the AFC only has two slots with Jordan hosting. CAF or CONMEBOL should've lost a spot.
Why not CONCACAF? CAF and CONMEBOL had better results than them in recent U-17 WWCs. Anyways, I think the rule is fine. Every confederation besides OFC get 3 spots. that's basically the fairest possible allocation of berths.
Japan & North Korea are the first teams to qualify. The AFC semis were today. Japan 8 - Thailand 0 North Korea 2 - China 1
Other federations. CAF: Nov. 2015 - March 2016. CONCACAF: Final tournament is scheduled for March 3 - 13, 2016 in Grenada. CONMEBOL: Tournament is scheduled for January 2016 in Argentina. OFC: Tournament is scheduled for January 13 - 23, 2016 in Cook Islands. UEFA: Currently underway. Final tournament is scheduled for May 4 - 16, 2016 in Belarus.
The CAF qualifiers resumed this weekend. Second Round South Africa vs. Zambia - Zambia WITHDREW Ghana vs. Sierra Leone - Sierra Leone WITHDREW Jan. 9 Egypt 6 - Djibouti 0 Cameroon 2 - Ethiopia 1 Nigeria 4 - Namibia 0 Morocco vs. Mali - SCORE UNKNOWN Second legs are scheduled for Jan. 22. FINAL ROUND match-ups(March 11 & 25) Morocco/Mali vs. Ghana Nigeria/Namibia vs. South Africa Cameroon/Ethiopia vs. Egypt/Djibouti
Mali also withdrew. That brings down the total number of teams to have actually played to 10. That's assuming Ghana, South Africa & Morocco all play in the final round. FINAL ROUND match-ups(March 11 & 25) Morocco vs. Ghana Nigeria/Namibia vs. South Africa Cameroon/Ethiopia vs. Egypt/Djibouti
OFC tournament is underway.... Schedule and Results: Group A 13/01/16 New Caledonia v Tonga 5-0 13/01/16 New Zealand v Samoa 11-0 15/01/16 New Caledonia v New Zealand 15/01/16 Samoa v Tonga 18/01/16 Tonga v New Zealand 18/01/16 Samoa v New Caledonia Group B 14/01/16 Cook Islands v Fiji 14/01/16 Papua New Guinea v Vanuatu 16/01/16 Fiji v Vanuatu 16/01/16 Papua New Guinea v Cook Islands 18/01/16 Vanuatu v Cook Islands 18/01/16 Fiji v Papua New Guinea Semi Finals 21/01/16 14:00 TBD 21/01/16 17:00 TBD Final 23/01/16 17:00 TBD
I wonder if the CAF should consider revised it's format for the U-17 tournaments/qualifiers. I wonder if they went the route of the AFC & CONCACAF with preliminary group stages followed by a final group stage if it would draw more interest & possible lower the $$$. Through the history of the CAF they've had the follow countries actually participate. The U-20 tournament seems to have no problems lately with numerous countries w/d. YEAR: U-20/U-17 2015(&2016): 18/10 2013(2014): 14/6 2011(&2012): 16/11 2010: 13/5 2008: 11/7
Perhaps a high percentage of U-17/18 players that all ready are playing in U-20 teams has smth to do with that? In Canada 2014 U-20 both Ghana and Nigeria had 30-35% of their roster filled with girls 18 or under. (while USA ie. had around 15-20% and France and Brazil had 5%)
OFC semifinals set. To close out Group A: Tonga 0 -- New Zealand 13 Samoa 0 -- New Caledonia 5 Rest of Group B: Fiji 2 -- Vanuatu 3 Papua New Guinea 2 -- Cook Islands 1 Vanuatu 1 -- Cook Islands 5 Fiji 2 -- Papua New Guinea 2 In the semifinals, New Zealand will face Fiji and Papua New Guinea will play New Caledonia.
