Credit to O When The Yanks for the original spot and to @Dave Marino-Nachison for finding official confirmation he's a Yank. I don't think he was playing for the U17s. He seems to have been playing for Mainz U17's second team in the U17 Regionalliga Southwest. Mainz's main U17 team plays in the U17 Bundesliga South/Southwest.
didn't play Mainz U17's 1st game of the season but today started and played 51 minutes in a 1-0 loss.
like the 1st game didn't play today. Have to say so far, not a great start for him, 3 games in and not a regular.
played 5 minutes today as a sub in a 4-2 win. 5 U17 games have been played this season. Kang has 1 start has 1 sub appearance has 3 games either unused bench player or didn't make the squad. if a player struggles to be a regular in U17 that's never a good step at any club.
he's made the bench once (unused as well) since that 5 minute appearance back in Sept 1, 2+ months ago....The count is now 12 games played for the season too.
Signed a contract with Dynamo Dresden. https://www.instagram.com/p/BtT3dUDH4jm/ @TheFalseNine @bungadiri "Joon Kang at Dynamo Dresden"
well it's obvious he wasn't going to make it at Mainz couldn't even touch the field much. also means he changes leagues from U17 Sud/Sudwest to U17 Nord/Nordost and Dynamo U17 aren't far off from the relegation zone.
Kang has started 2 consecutive games for Dynamo U17. Playing 65 min in a 1-0 win vs Kiel U17 Playing 65 min in a trashing 5-1 loss to Wolfsburg U17, it was 4-0 when he was subbed out. that's 130 min played for Dynamo U17 vs 61 min for Mainz U17 for more than half the season.
after his Winter move, ended up with 0 goals and 1 assist in 10 games playing 583 min for Dynamo U17. started the 1st 9/10 game until game 9 was subbed out at HT and then ended up with a sub appearance today in a 3-2 loss.
started last 2 consecutive games for Dynamo. Their 2-0 win vs Wolfsburg U19 and today 3-1 win vs St Pauli. Kang scored his 1st goal of the season today, he scored what ended up the winner in their comeback win.
19 year old winger Joon Kang ('02) has signed with newly-promoted Bundesliga club Greuther Fürth, joining Julian Green & Timothy Tillman. He's from Danville, CA and was most recently with the U19's at Dynamo Dresden. He is eligible to represent both South Korea and the U.S. pic.twitter.com/8VAYMBcnvI— USMNT Only (@usmntonly) June 22, 2021
very likely for II. Dynamo has no II and he hasn't played since Oct 2020 due to covid. Jump from u19 to 1BL already big don't think Kang is good enough for that. Although he trained with Dynamo 1st while in 3rd Liga and played friendlies.....so did majority of U19 players there. Dynamo signed 3 02s to pro contracts and Kang wasn't one of them. also a lot of II announcement in Germany go under rug. Any 1st annoucements would be announced all over place.
