Its a cogent argument; I can see pretty much what you are talking about, and I might well see it as decisive--in 2015.

Thing is, we don't really know that about 2020-- there's a gm now, and it depends greatly on how Margraf sees her role. She may well see herself as controlling that, or as the coach's advocate on that-- or even as flexible to the coaches actual preference one way or the other. She'll know, but we won't for a while, and even if she thinks she knows what she's out to do, sports history is full of gms who had one idea about how they'd go about, it, and then wound up doing it very differently when push came to shove.

As I say, I'd be delighted with him-- but there's a whole lot to the decision and the application of it that we can't really hope to see at this distance. I tend to trust the folks doing it, and I'm apt to start out happy with whomever they settle on.

    Just don't bring April back.

    Please.

    Give ya a lollipop.

Ok, he's probably not going to be the new coach, but few of us here have really entertained the idea of many coaches abroad. Who abroad is a possibility?

Blocked the approach? Does that mean the USWNT can't get their man?

Totally OT but the Bayern Munich player Gnabry just did 2 ‘ tea drinking’ celebrations against Tottenham in a Champions League group stage 2-7 drubbing.

    God bless Alex Morgan.

    And THAT’S the tea.

(Nor original with me. Someone else here said that about an American football player imitating Rapinoe's stretched-out arms victory pose.)

I don't get this. Why would USSF and/or Markgraff be looking outside the US for a coach? We have several good, experienced coaches in the women's game that can do this job. I push for Vlatko but there are others both male and female.
Our only problem is whether a college coach would leave their tenured, cushy job to coach the pros of the USWNT?

I don't like the idea of bringing in a coach from abroad, only because it's like saying we don't have good coaches here in the U.S

However, I do like the fact that Joe Montemurro was a midfielder. I would hope that any future coach would focus on having a quality midfield.

Games are so much more enjoyable to watch when our midfield is dominant.

This is taking way too long. Am I the only one that finds it unbelievable that we still don't have an announcement?

I wonder if US Soccer isn't waiting until after the NWSL season is ended.

Well the men had a long search process and that turned out so well that they thought they would repeat the process for the women.

The women have asked to be treated equally and it looks like, in this case, they have been successful.

I want Vlatko, but of it's not him, I still want an American based coach female or male.
There is no reason to look outside the country, in my opinion

I'm hoping it's an NWSL coach. We have a couple good ones.

Has anyone seen anything about Swanson or Dambach (or another college coach perhaps but those are the two with experience in the program) still being in the running? Or is the consensus that its pretty much down to Vlatko or Harvey?

This seems to me the most plausible explanation.

Several potential coaches were interviewed in Chicago this past week, and reportedly Harvey and Andonovski were interviewed. Now in Utah's post-match press conference, Harvey said she would NOT be the women's national team coach. She said she plans to stay in Utah.

It seems pretty clear that its Vlatko at this point, and they're waiting to announce, but I guess someone else could still be in the mix.

Also related: the new coach will be required to be based in Chicago, which has not previously been the case. (as reported by the Equalizer)

No offense intended to various cities but Chicago is among the least favorite cities that I have ever lived in for at least a few months. Also included are Detroit, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, Los Angles, Dallas and any place in New Jersey.

I spent an entirely horrible eight months in Chicago and was offered a good permanent job to stay. I took less pay and a lower position to get placed elsewhere.

For me based in Chicago would be a HUGE negative to taking just about any position. But I know quite a few people that like living there. There is no accounting for what people like or don't like.

I wonder why that is? Doesn't really seem necessary to me.
