    I think that's a reasonable reading of the situation, but you don't have to see it that way, necessarily.

    It's not really choosing effort over skill, but which set of skills you want for the game plan. With a makeshift defensive central mid scheme and missing our starting center forward and second most creative player, DeLeon might make sense. Le Toux isn't going to do as much to take pressure off the defense or be as good at defending under pressure as DeLeon. I think Ben ran the numbers and determined that we had a higher likelihood of denying an eastern conference foe goals with DeLeon in than we did scoring to unknown effect with Le Toux in.

    Neagle is Ortiz' only real backup with Mullins out and Kamara in Richmond, and he's nothing like 90 minutes fit (75 minutes played in the season up to that point), so starting him at wing in a game where he might have to be playing forward at minute 90 wouldn't have been ideal.
