I was thinking of Fred's sidekick, Grady, from Sanford & Son. With that theme in mind, if Bilello says one more stupid thing, "Imma give you one-a these, cross yo' lip!"
So we're 17 games into the 34 game 2017 regular season. Let's take a look at the standings to see if anything has changed and then project out the rest of the year. The revs are a very mediocre 5-7-5 with 20 points through 17 games, good for a 1.18 ppg average. In the east, only DC has a worse ppg (with 1 fewer game played), though out west there are 4 teams with worse ppg - including the defending champion Sounders (granted, by .001). Earning points at the same rate in the second h, the revs will finish at a mediocre 10-14-10, good for 40 points - not enough to make the playoffs. This accounts for the annual swoon and the annual playoff push which usually is a brief winning streak that either culminates in a sigh of relief or the agony being "this close" to making the playoffs. In terms of GF/GA, the revs have scored 27, conceded 25 sitting at +2 GD. W dustould not be shocked if they doubled those numbers and finished +2 when the dust has settled at the end of the year. Of course, this would be an improvement on last season which saw the revs miss the playoffs based on goal difference - yay, progress. They fall within the trend this year of teams having dominant home form and then woeful road form, with a similar record as Houston in this regard -one of four winless road teams. Tying back to Heaps, I think it's almost a certainty he will be gone after this season. Even the Krafts can only stand mediocrity for so long. They could simply not renew his contract and hire someone else, which wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing.
Couldn't watch the game since I was driving so listened on the radio to Brad and Paul. Brad, without even realizing it IMO, basically called out Heaps as not being able to fix the decision making of his team. Nice job, Brad! The post-game wrap-up, Hardy basically called out Heaps again about the "philosophical problems" that seem to be plaguing the Revs and asked Clyde Simms what he thought. Simms evaded the question, but by answering the way he did, again pointed to Heaps as a big part of the problem.
According to the data below, the typical summer swoon under Heaps lasts about 2 months: Summer swoons - Heaps years 2017: 0-4-0 (0 pts) 6/17 to ? 2016: 2-8-2 (8 pts) 6/25 to 8/28 , or 0-5-1 7/31 to 8/28 2015: 1-7-2 (5 pts) 5/20 to 7/11 2014: 0-8-0 (0 pts) 5/31 to 7/26 2013: 3-5-2 (11 pts) 6/8 to 8/10 2012: 0-7-3 (3 pts) 7/14 to 9/1
We've had near annual summer swoons under Rongen, Clavijo, and Nicol. It's as much a part of Revs tradition as Slyde.
I like how 2 of the top 3 rated field players in last weekend's US match were Revs. Throw in the fact that Watson, Koffie, and Delamea were away representing their country in international matches. And one would think, the Revs must have some team with 5 international players on the roster. Nope, they are in last place. Could coaching be an issue???
It's true, I forgot to include Zenga. I intentionally left out Stapleton though because that whole season was a swoon.
I'm still holding to this position. If they hang this miserable season on Heaps and Burns somehow survives, nothing much is going to change. This front office needs to be cleaned out like Hercules did with the Aegean stables. In fact, a new team president to hold everyone's feet to the fire might be the best place to start.
This, this, a thousand times... THIS!!! Bilello, Burns AND Heaps must all be shown the door. The New England Revolution front-office brain-trust is brain-dead. Who among "The Three Stooges" of the Kraft Group, based upon their tenure with the Revolution, could secure their current position with any other franchise in Major League Soccer? Does anyone truly believe that another MLS organization would consider any of these chronic underachievers a top candidate for a job elsewhere in the league? Hell, given their track-records in Foxboro, Bilello, Burns and Heaps would be hard-pressed to get a first-rate USL side to take a flyer on them. Enough with rewarding abject incompetence!!! Fire the lot of them!!!
When is his contract up? The Krafts might wait until then, simply out of laziness. Isn't that what they did with Nicol?
New blood. Someone from outside the organization, but familiarity with the US system. I'm not sure who would want the job, but we can't promote from within again, even if that torpedoes nice guys like Paul or Carlos.
No. He'd probably improve our defensive discipline, but our offense would lose its moments of brilliance, as fleeting as those moments have been. Let's not forget that Steve was the reason Jay was seen as an improvement to the team. No, new blood means totally new. No Ralston, no Rongen, no Nicol. I'd even be wary of Savarese or bit players. Outside perspective, all the way.
I don't, though I'm not saying we need someone outside MLS, just outside the Revs' culture. I think I'd be happiest with someone in the Caleb Porter mold, someone who's molded college players and is looking to make the jump to the pros. Ideally, we'd end up with a Revs' Brad Stevens. But without a Revs' Danny Ainge (which Burns certainly ain't), that's unlikely to happen.
