Jason Davidson at FC Groningen [R]

Australia defender Jason Davidson has signed with West Brom. Head coach Alan Irvine completed his seventh signing of his short reign to date with the capture of the 23-year-old left-back. Irvine has had to wait patiently for Davidson to resolve a contract dispute with Dutch Eredivisie club Heracles Almelo. Davidson believed he had finished his contract with Heracles and had become a free agent.

Heracles, however, informed Davidson they had triggered a one-year option on that deal and he remained their player. To get the deal over the line, Albion have paid an undisclosed fee for Davidson, who's signed a two-year contract, with an option in the club's favour for a further season.

Irvine has confirmed speaking to former Everton star Tim Cahill, now with New York Red Bulls, for an appraisal on Davidson. "He recommended him very, very highly both as a player and character," Irvine added.

AUSTRALIA defender Jason Davidson has joined Dutch side FC Groningen on a season-long deal from English Football League side Huddersfield Town.

The 25-year-old has been on the outer with Terriers boss David Wagner after falling out with the former Borusssia Dortmund assistant coach last season and the Dutch side have an option to make the deal permanent.
