    From Goff:

Getting word that Arsenal has its eye on another young Washington-based player: Jake Rozhansky, a U.S. under-17 central midfielder from Blair High School in Silver Spring, Md., who has played for Olney Rangers for almost 10 years. His family lineage is eastern European.

He's from the same club as Gedion Zelalem.

I don't know Belorussian, but I do know Russian, and that is definitely not accurate. Sounds like a Google translation, saying something like "Cover him at this time"

TDS saying he's transferring to Maryland:

M Jake Rozhansky, Virginia to Maryland

Maryland picked up a pair of great transfers in Gordon Wild and Rozhansky for 2016. Wild is a talented forward who did exceptionally well in his debut season with USC Upstate last season, and he'll add depth to Maryland's already talented offense. Rozhansky has proven his quality in the ACC for the past two seasons while leading the Virginia midfield. He looks like the obvious replacement for Mael Corboz, who signed a Homegrown deal with the New York Red Bulls. Rozhansky and Wild could be the best two players to transfer in the offseason and they are both headed to Maryland.

Wonder what turned him back away from Europe. Any word that he trialed and just wasn't picked up?

Weird move all the way around. Playing in the Big Ten does less to improve a player than playing in the ACC. And as a transfer, he'll have to sit out a year.

That's a hell of a long way from trialing in Europe.

Playing at Maryland is probably a better path to success than UVA

I may be totally mistaken about this, but my understanding was that many soccer transfers that are not in-conference frequently play the next season. It would seem odd for a guy interested in playing professionally, perhaps overseas, to sit out a season, unless he planned to take a year off (or had other extenuating personal reasons for the change).

Rozhansky is really tearing it up at the Maccabiah for the US. Commentators on Sport5 were singing his praises in the final against Britain saying he could easily find himself a central cog in an Israeli squad next season.

He scored a hat-trick in the finals for a 3-0 win over Great Britain. He had at least 2 other goals during the competition (the scoring summary for one match is missing).

@bungadiri -- Let's move Jake to YA Academy.

Israeli site, One.co.il, is reporting that Rozhansky is a transfer target of Maccabi Netanya. I think he is set to join the MLS combine if that still exists. But I am sure that for the right price as a free agent and guaranteed playing time, he may be swayed to making a move to Israel. As it stands now, Netanya is in fifth place and very much in the hunt for a Europa League qualifying spot.

If he goes to Israel would he have to do mandatory military service? I'm real fuzzy on what does and does not exempt a person from that.

At his age, he may have to do six months to a year of non-combat service near his residence. It all depends on the person's age at the initial time that they arrive in Israel. Argentine midfielder, Guillermo Israilevich, arrived at age 20 and had to do a lengthy service starting at age 23 as a result. There was a Canadian in Maccabi Tel Aviv's youth system, Oliver Spring, who left for Duke or something in order to avoid being drafted. Then there is the case of Canadian striker Daniel Haber who refused Israeli citizenship in order to avoid the army. Maccabi Haifa thought he was still worth it though to take a foreign player spot and could have pressured him to get citizenship later once he was past draft age.

Rozhansky has been trialing with Netanya and apparently it went very well. Sounds like a done deal.
