And he's still very new to the league. I'm dying to see how much better he'll be once he'll get a real feel for the Prem.

    Here's his quote:

Darmian can play on the right or left, so which flank does he prefer?

“On the right I can make the most of my natural foot, but I’ve been playing on the left for a year now. Either way it doesn’t make much difference, the important thing is to do well for the Nazionale.”

To me that translates to him being right footed, not left.

Does Mou not rate this guy? I rate him more than Tony V!

He's piss poor in the attacking third which is why he isn't ahead of Tony V. If he improves then he has a chance, otherwise he will be a squaddie.

It is a tradeoff because Tony V is not as good a defender. Maybe we should get some proper RWs and see how they perform. I just don't see Tony V being that much better, imo.

I've said it before, I really hope Darmian does not leave. His ability to play on both sides alone makes him pretty valuable. But more importantly, I believe that given a chance over the course of the season, we'll get to see the real Darmian and he could make the RB spot his own.
Have no problems with Valencia right now, but I can't help wondering how long that will last. Darmian just needs to stay ready and wait for his chance.

In the modern game the full backs spend majority of their time attacking rather than defending.

The excuse of Darmian needing a proper RW in front is also a lazy one to make. Its not like Valencia has Ronaldo in front of him. Its been most of the time Mata. And it still doesn't excuse Darmian's poor play in the final third when left in acres of space. Like I said he needs a massive improvement.

The bottom line and what is worth remembering is that the Darmian we saw last season is far from the player he really is. Anyone who has seen him with Torino or the Italian national team prior to last season knows this without a shadow of a doubt.
He started extremely well for United and arguably was one of the team's best players in the early going, but then the wheels fell completely off for him, both at club and international level.
We can point to several reasons why that was, be it Van Gaal's system, failure to adapt to a new team, country or culture, who knows what it was but he simply was not the player we thought him to be. Not even close in reality. And on that basis alone, we should not be so quick to jettison him in my opinion.
Valencia's current form is keeping him out of the team at the moment and it's all well and good, but there's a chance it will not last, whether it's because of loss of form or an injury or simply because of the sheer number of games on offer. And the hope is that Darmian will still be here when that day comes and ready to step up at the level that is expected of him.

The moment he went to the LB position his performances started to falter. He started so well at RB but the cnut of a coach LVG switched him

Wasn't he switched because Shaw went down and we had no LBs? It is too easy an excuse to blame everything on LvG.

I thought he was alright. I still can't imagine he's around past the summer.

Agreed. He is too good a player and too well regarded in Italy to not be a regular starter here.

I personally still think he could have a role here, but 19 appearances a season for a 6th place team isn't enough if a good Serie A team is ready to make you their starter.

I'm not saying that. I'm talking about his own career trajectory. I'd prefer he stay and try to at least challenge for the spot, but if an Italian team is ready to give him a starting spot then there's no point in being here.
