I met Crescitelli in November at 70th anniversary gala of the Long Island Soccer Football League. He is a member of the Hall of Fame.
Ya he was a nice guy. I remembered him with San Jose and when he played with Team America. He came from Avellino with his family when he was 11 years old I believe. Last I heard he was teaching and coaching in NYC. He used to fall down a lot but he was a goal scorer. That was uncommon for an American based player at that time. He was not as good as the NASL foreign forwards but he held his own.
Crescitelli reminded me of how he got his break. Paul Cannell was the starting forward but injured his ankle using roller skates. It opened the door for Crescitelli.
If the young guys can't score and the old guys can, I'm all for the older crowd. Also, all the world loves a goal scorer! Largo all'età avanzata!
we will never forget you Seba... we will follow you... forever... non ti dimenticheremo mai Seba, non smetteremo mai di seguirti!
Supposedly , his contract option was up and he didn’t believe the number Toronto was offering was good enough. Considering what they pay or paid many of the foreigners who did nothing and Giovinco is pretty much the only worth his while to almost solely contribute to winning his team an MLS Cup, I think they should have given him what he wanted. When I think of all the superstars who came to New York for two clubs who never won anything, you can’t stop but shake your head. Starting with Donadoni and ending with Pirlo , Villa and Lampard , like him or not, Seba was the best one. He didn’t have their superstar names but he definitely won and did more in MLS.
Enlarge the picture, look slightly left of the Italian player, about 20 rows up and you will see me, 13 years of age. I am not sure where I am in that picture, if at all but I was at that match.
