That was his point. He’s not a bad defender, but Klopp’s teams are vulnerable for numbers reasons, not just skill.
Real reportedly don't want to let him leave, but he does have a €50mil release clause. That really would not be a bad deal for him at all, would be great if we could make it happen. At that price, there surely will be lots of interest in him... There are also loose rumors linking Barca with a move for Mata. With the attempt to get Griezmann having fallen through, he is seen as an option for them (especially as a direct replacement, numbers wise for Iniesta). Mata always said how happy he is a United and how much he wants to stay, but the situation could change with a club like Barca calling, coupled with the fact that he could be struggling for playing time if we bring in a new RW/RWF for this coming season.
I would love Kovacic. The only reason the guy isn't a star is because he plays for Madrid who have the most stacked midfield in Europe. Even though it's not exactly how he's been used in the past, he could be an excellent DLP. His passing range and vision is excellent and hes defensively aware enough to shield the back 4.
If the buyout is accurate it’s a no brainer. He’s by far the best realistic complement to Pogba and Fred.
If Geddes is the kid with Portugal, I will pass. All I have seen him do is fick up scoring opportunities served up in a plate by CR7 by being scared to shoot or take an unnecessary touch.
You wouldn't necessarily be saying that if you saw his play for Valencia this season. Guedes is not having the best of WCs so far granted, but he's definitely a quality player nonetheless. He's still just 21 (having become a regular with club and country just this past season). And in a market where viable right sided options are at a premium, there's no question he's one of the better ones available. His ceiling is ridiculous (elite level potential).
Lyon President Jean Michel Aulas: "I was with José Mourinho the other day. We had long discussions." (BeIN)— Get French Football News (@GFFN) June 23, 2018
Long discussions may imply they talked about a lot of different players and topics. We should be so lucky if Fekir was mentioned. I'm betting that Ndombele has been extensively mentioned. Secretly hoping that Jose said something to the effect of: "Since Rafa is no longer your starting RB, how about a straight swap for Valencia or Darmian? Heck, I'll give you both if you want." And then of course, it might have concluded with: "How much for Memphis?", thinking he let him go way too soon... But not before some type of agreement, where United agrees to regularly sent out on loan some of our brightest talent in order to gain valuable experience at high level, might have been struck between both clubs... Those would have been interesting and productive talks between both men.
If Lozano could play on the right just as he can on the left, he'd be an ideal player for Mourinho, with the work he puts in at the back, as well as going forward.
VvD brought calm and composure to their backline. The rest of the backline improved considerably after his arrival, notably Lovren, who almost looked respectable in the latter part of the season. They got to the CL final, think that would've happened without him?! And if you need some stats, 28 goals in 24 games before VvD, 7 goals in 10 games post (EPL games). He's not perfect and didn't solve all their defensive issues, some of which are structural, but to claim it's rubbish that he improved them is exceedingly harsh.
Has that been confirmed anywhere by Mourinho ? Or does JM Aulas just want Liverpool and Spurs(linked to NDombèlé), and anybody else for that matter that is linked with one of their players to think that was the case and to get a move on ?
That's very interesting. He's shown so far that he looks like the genuine article and any club lucky enough to get his services after the WC will get one heck of a player in their hands. United knows perfectly well who he is also, having had discussions with Pachuca about him a few years back. He'd be a dream for us, considering our need for a RW.
If the brief is to find a tall CM to replace Fellaini, then for comparisons sake they should be compared to McT who we already have and is tall and is a CM. Not saying that I am a big McT fan (think he is limited and not starter quality) but SMS aside some of the people we are being linked with are bang average and their highlight reels not much better than yardstick McT.
I like a player that does not complicate things. That is McT. He needs to improve his through balls, taking more risks, he needs to hit a long ranger whether it is a pass or a cross and finally be more physical.
McT is a late bloomer physically, and tho he plays more as an 8 or a double pivot now as he's learning/getting experience, I feel like if he can improve his passing ability he could end up developing into a Carrick like player holding it down at the 6 spot..
Truth is, we don't fully know yet what we have in McTominay or what he will become. One of his best attributes (so far as having Jose as a manager) is that he does what he's told and keeps it very basic, but the one drawback about this is that we're still yet to see what he is really capable of. By many accounts he seems to be a capable scorer and is very good going forward, but we haven't seen that part of his game because Mourinho hasn't taken him off the leash yet. It's just as likely he can become a direct replacement to Pogba for instance, or develop into a different type of midfielder. For now he's a solid squad guy in midfield, but if per chance we were to bring in another CM this summer, it's likely then that the best option for him might be to out on loan, so he can have a chance to play regularly, therefore really taking his game to the next level.
