I like the enthusiasm but it's time for me to be a debbie downer.

It's actually pronounced with a hard g (luh-get, with the emphasis on the hard g). From the horse's mouth:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?t=22&v=Q4TV-1a5-CA

While we're at it, the announcers have Väyrynen wrong as well. It's vie (rhymes with pie) not vay (rhymes with say) and rue (rhymes with do) not rin. VIE-rue-nen, with the r being rolled in a similar fashion to the German r. The nen part rhymes with pen, so that's pretty easy.

I can't find a video of him saying it himself, but here's it said by others (very quickly).

In the near future I hope Galaxy announcers won't have to worry about how to pronounce his name.

I believe if you stick to the pronunciation of "La-Jet" you'll be fine.

I'm very much a stickler for name pronunciation, so forgive me this indulgence. "La-Jet" is not correct. "Luh/La-Get" is how it should be pronounced, with the hard G as in "growl" or "goodness you're a pedant".

As much as I like Lletget as a player, something about his looking like the vaguely foreign druglord villain of an 80's cop movie is off-putting.

Wow, he's got that douchebag look, but whatever, so long as he keeps playing well for us and helps LA stay in contention.

I'm also a stickler for name pronunciation. Y'all can pronounce Lee Nguyen's last name now, right?

I think you'll be alright if you say La-Jet. I've heard it said enough.

Just because it's commonly said doesn't mean it's right. Sure, people will know who you're talking about but that's not a reason to keep pronouncing something incorrectly if you know the correct pronunciation.

Remember Peguero Jean Philippe? For his first stint in the league announcers called him Jean Philippe Peguero but years later, in his second stint in the league, it was discovered his surname and first name were actually reversed and his name is actually Peguero Jean Philippe. Announcers get things wrong. Just listen to Cobi try and pronounce Mastroeni's last name.

Nowadays most should have heard how it's pronounced but back in the day, I've heard many pronunciations but that's not their fault since Nguyen is not phonetically pronounced. Blame it on the French and/or Portuguese who introduced the Westernized letters.

Back on topic: "Luh-get." Sounds simple enough.

Damn those French and Portuguese. If not for them, we would surely all be writing about Lee's last name in traditional Chinese characters with perfect clarity as to pronunciation.

I don't know if you're trying to be sarcastic or funny but the Chinese spell out their names in Western letters. I'm sure the Vietnamese would do the same if they still had traditional lettering.

I don't think there is a wrong way to pronounce his name incorrectly.

I always laugh when an announcer pronounces it "master-O-nee" because it sounds like a guy who loves Beefaroni a little TOO much.

Keep it up, funny boys. Hopefully he reads these posts and realizes that you LA fans are idiots and will come back to his home.

Seriously, though -- he is a quality kid. I have seen him (as a referee and parent of of a kid who played for Santa Clara Sporting) over about ten years, and as both a player and a person he is first rate. You folks really got a good one, and I hope you (and Arena) appreciate it!

If Lleget reads these posts and can't understand that fans want to have a little fun with a play on words, perhaps he needs thicker skin or just ignore us. We're not ranting about his play; we freaking love it so far. We want to know how the last name is pronounced and we also want to play around with the name so that maybe we can make a banner at the games and show our appreciation.

Uh, I don't think he was referring to the pronunciation of his name as causing offense. More like calling him out as looking like a douche, probably... great way to talk about our own player.
