Amigos. I assume you all have ESPN+ to follow the Dynamo anywhere you are. So you have ability to go back and watch Chile v Uruguay from yesterday at Copa America. Breath taking action. I had to check to see if ESPN+ was replaying the game at enhanced speed. Those teams just went at it full speed all over the pitch for 90+ minutes.
@DonJuego That was a really good match. I think Chile played a bit better, but that header by Cavani was just perfect. A "must watch" for this Dynamo team to see what it means to play for 90 minutes.

So I saw this post this morning and thought "what the hell, Curacao is out" then I realized that I only saw the first half of the JAM v CUR game last night before falling asleep. Jamaica was just killing Curacao but kept missing sitters. It was crazy. So I just finished watching last nights games. Holy shit!
The Costa Rica vs. Mexico rivalry was once an afterthought in our region. But then Ojitos Meza was running Mexico into the ground in Hex 2001. Paolo Wanchope snatches a winner in the Azteca there in June of 2001 and Mexico losses in World Cup Qualifying at home for the very first time! That did it for the Mexican press and older fans. Los Ticos became respected and yet hated opponents. Last night was just another chapter in this rivalry.
CONCACAF has announced the 2022 World Cup qualifying format. https://www.concacaf.com/en/world-c...-2022-fifa-world-cup-confederation-qualifiers Next summer CONCACAF will use the June 2021 FIFA rankings to divide the CONCACAF nations into two groups. The top 6 will play the Hex on the FIFA windows from September 2020 through September 2021 with the top 3 advancing directly to the World Cup. The other 29 teams will be divided into eight 3 or 4 team groups and play home-and-away through the 2020 FIFA dates. The 8 group winners will meet in a knockout tournament in 2021. The winner of that tournament will play the #4 team from the Hex in October 2021 to get into the Intercontinental playoffs. Basically the big dogs get to avoid the early rounds and go straight to the Hex. The rest of the confederation has to have a fight to get a chance at that last half a spot. On the positive side, the big countries don't have play minnows. And the minnows all get at least 4 and most will get 6 qualifier matches in their group stage. Also, almost the whole qualification process is compressed into a 13 month period.
For the teams in the 4 thru 10 area this should make Concacaf Nations League a big freakin deal because that will have a big impact on your FIFA ranking. Or will it? It should, but will teams look to game the rankings? Will they be playing home friendlies against minnows as often as possible to stack the rankings? I consider it a huge downside to not have a round where the big dogs have to go play in the small CA and Caribbean countries. First, my trip to Antigua & Barbuda to watch the USMNT play a meaningful qualifier at a cricket pitch in a tropical thunderstorm (i've never been wetter in my life -- not even swimming) is a memory I treasure. Second, the US and Mexico have each had near misses in those 4 team group stages with C and D level teams. Second -- it was like the world cup had come to Antigua & Barbuda. They were so excited to host the Americans and have such a big game on their little island. Having said that -- I understand why the US and Mexico would like this.
I agree with a lot of that but I don't think there is much countries can do to game the system. There isn't much room for friendlies. Friendlies outside of FIFA windows are only worth a factor of 5 while ones during the windows are worth 10. The FIFA windows this fall especially for the League B teams are full of CNL games which are worth 15. The CNL games are going to be the main factors. Maybe next spring you will see some of that but friendlies just don't have a big impact.
The current (June) FIFA rankings for the top 15 in CONCACAF. Obviously this will change by next June. The just finished Gold Cup will have to get figured in and then the CNL games this fall. The qualifying tournament put teams into league independently of this. It is interesting to look at the number of CNL games each will have since League A and C have 3 team groups and League B has 4 team groups. 1. Mexico (A, 4 games) 2. USA (A, 4 games) 3. Costa Rica (A, 4 games) 4. Jamaica (B, 6 games) 5. Honduras (A, 4 games) 6. El Salvador (B, 6 games) ============= 7. Panama (A, 4 games) 8. Canada (A, 4 games) 9. Curacao (A, 4 games) 10. Trinidad & Tobago (A, 4 games) 11. Haiti (A, 4 games) 12. Antigua and Barbuda (B, 6 games) 13. Nicaragua (B, 6 games) 14. St. Kitts and Nevis (B, 6 games) ------------------------------ 15. Guatemala (C, 4 games) Jamaica and El Salvador have more of those games so that will help them. On the other hand, I guess some of those others have opening to maybe schedule friendlies. I don't think anyone below Haiti really has a chance. EDIT: I forgot that Honduras and Trinidad are in the same group in the CNL. Costa Rica, Haiti, and Curacao are all in the same group. Those will be very big games. Panama is in with Mexico and, of course, Canada is in the USA group.

Figueroa played the full game and Alberth Elis scored a 73' equalizer as Honduras hosted Chile in San Pedro Sula Tuesday night. In response Chile brought on Jose Bizama to neutralize Elis (perhaps I made that part up) in the 75' to no avail as Honduras' Tovo netted the winner at minute 80 for a 2:1 final scoreline.
