🗞 | Gregg Berhalter has named a 22-player travel roster ahead of next Saturday's clash vs. 🇨🇷 @dignityhealthsp in Carson, CA. #StakeYourClaim | #JanuaryCamp— U.S. Soccer Men's National Team (@USMNT) January 25, 2020 Marcinkowski, Roldan, and Morris head back to their clubs.
That defense looks rough with exception of right back. USMNT DETAILED ROSTER BY POSITION (Club; Caps/Goals): GOALKEEPERS (3): Sean Johnson (New York City FC; 8/0), Bill Hamid (D.C. United; 6/0), Matt Turner (New England Revolution; 0/0) DEFENDERS (8): Julian Araujo (LA Galaxy; 0/0), Reggie Cannon (FC Dallas; 10/0), Chase Gasper (Minnesota United FC; 0/0), Justen Glad (Real Salt Lake; 0/0), Aaron Long (New York Red Bulls; 16/3), Mark McKenzie (Philadelphia Union; 0/0), Sam Vines (Colorado Rapids; 0/0), Walker Zimmerman (LAFC; 11/2) MIDFIELDERS (6): Brenden Aaronson (Philadelphia Union; 0/0), Christian Cappis (Hobro/DEN; 0/0), Bryang Kayo (Unattached; 0/0), Sebastian Lletget (LA Galaxy; 13/2), Brandon Servania (FC Dallas; 0/0), Jackson Yueill (San Jose Earthquakes; 6/0) FORWARDS (5): Paul Arriola (D.C. I’d like to see the following newbies get some minutes: llanez Aaronson Ferreira Cappis Araujo Yueill (not quite a newbie but not yet baseline) Baseline players Long Cannon disappointed not to see Morris
ok, given the "final" roster this is what i expect: ________johnson _____long___zimmerman cannon_______gaspar/vines _________yeuill ____servania___lletget arriola_____________lewis __________zardes id prefer uly over lewis, and literally anyone on the roster (including the backup keepers) over zardes- though, to be serious, im still not sure ferreira is/should be a forward for us. and gaspar/vines is a tossup, right? is there any reason to think one is ahead of the other? aaronson is probably more likely to start (over servania, having been in previous camps) but i dont know that berhalter will go that offensive. i think the "established" guys are dead on locks to start, and id say lewis is very probable cause hes played for berhalter before. we should see almost everyone though, assuming 7 subs, so id be ok not seeing araujo (we have 4 concacaf level rbs already), mckenzie or glad (just imo, not big on either) and kayo. and personally id like aaronson, servania, ferreira and uly get as close to a full half as possible.
Does anyone know where they will be training this week in California. They have used Irvine, Carson, and Chula Vista. I would like to go see them train this week. I am really surprised at the lack of news coming out of the camp. I would like to be hearing from players and coaches but virtually nothing.
Zardes has been a solid producer for the team. Lewis did well out of last year's camp--2 assists. He was productive with Colorado--5 goals and 3 assists in 900 minutes. Servania was strong in the U20, and had strong season with FCD. Gasper had an excellent rookie season with Minnesota. Vines is super raw, but Gregg is dogmatic about having a left-footed left back. He gets to be the back up over Duncan and Araujo. ------------------Zardes------- ------Lewis----Lletget----Arriola--- -----------Yueill----Servania--- --Gasper----------------------Cannon--- ----------Zimmerman---Long---- ------------------Turner-----
I think that is the conservative baseline, but if any of the kids showed well at camp, I'm hoping they had a chance to win a spot. And, ultimately the lineup will if that happened. Who knows anything much about Bryang Kayo? I've only seen a few clips, not sure if much more is out there. But, this could be someone really interesting to my eyes.
Looks to be Carson... Back at it in LA❗️Six days until we face 🇨🇷 @dignityhealthsp. pic.twitter.com/HsYXzoH5C9— U.S. Soccer Men's National Team (@USMNT) January 26, 2020
Id specifically like to see Llanez, Ferriera, Aaronson, Cappis, and Araujo. There have been some good reports on Llanez from the camp. Ferriera is an intriguing player. Is Aaronson over rated or the real deal? I dont know anything about Cappis.
Cappis is a big midfielder at 6'2. He usually plays the 8 in the right side of the field but has the chops to play the 6. He can also link into the attack and seems to score when given a chance. His passing and 1-touch is very good. Kid has good field vision. I'm looking forward to seeing where he stands in our mids ranking.
Cappis has a good game against France before the WC, in fact, he scored the tying goal. My guess is he was probably the last player to be cut before the U20WC.
