With the quarterfinals of the champions league looming, there is no better time to get excited about it. Have an inside look at this year's champions league: http://www.tenmillionslaves.com/champions-league-special/
Sandals For Goalposts (a new blog focusing on football in Africa and Asia, a joint effort by me and a few friends) compile the 60 Greatest African Players of all time. This covers numbers 60-51, the list will continue in the coming weeks: http://sandalsforgoalposts.com/2012/03/01/60-greatest-african-players-60-51/
I was reading that this morning after Jonathan Wilson retweeted it. Looked good I thought, I'll be following it closely.
Thanks comme. I have come across your blog before, great depth of football history there, keep up the quality work!

Spartacus Educational is possibly the best resource on the web for classic British and Irish players. The bonus text at the foot of the profiles (much of it contemporary to the profiled figure of the game) offers some good additional insight IMO. This is the main page for their Football Encylopaedia: http://www.spartacus.schoolnet.co.uk/ENCfootball.htm Once again, I hope that you will find this information helpful...
From here you can get to the online archive ("morgue") for football features and stories from "The Daily Mirror". Just scroll down to the bottom of the page for links to other profiles besides "Sir Stan". My favourite part is the scans of contemporary back page reports relating to the figure being profiled on the left hand side of the page: http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/arc...-our-archive-article6355.html?display=players IMO, it reminds you of a few things when you read a contemporary writer having a go at Matthews in print for supposedly getting in a bad cross or a Tommy Lawton or Nat Lofthouse supposedly "making hash" out of an easy goal-scoring chance when representing England...
Since when does OPTA collect all that (incl. counting goals made with head). I ask it because I've seen slightly different assist-stats for quasi-legends like Cantona or Bergkamp.
