WTF! There are soccer lines on the field for the Eagles game! This is an abomination! Who agreed to let the Galaxatives play in the Chargers new stadium?
Worst part was listening to Eskin on the radio before the Eagles game. Made it sound like it was the Chargers' stadium and, God forbid, they let a soccer game be played there the night before.
Watch out if he sends you a dozen roses though. Dear Sir/Madam, It was absolutely wonderful getting to know you. Hope to get to know you better. You were very thought-provoking and I do love your name. Love, Howard.
Hard to tell if it's a done deal or a strong-arm tactic for a publicly-financed stadium. Contradictory evidence abounds: Garber sounds off in support, Precourt had some sort of clause in his purchase contract that specifically names Austin as an allowed relocation site, Mayor of Austin tweets there will be no public financing of a stadium there, local Columbus consortium interested in buying but Precourt not interested in selling, etc. In either case it's greasy, slime-ball shit from Precourt. I really don't want to see the league lose a team and a fanbase like Columbus (who else is going to give us a resounding mid-season, mid-week win each year?!). Blegh.
The more that comes out about this situation, the sleazier and sleazier it sounds. Precourt's scumbag credentials are without parallel, it would appear.
Props to C-bus! They knocked the league's new favorite child out of the playoffs and gave their fans a home playoff game to show their support for the Crew AND display their displeasure with Precourt and Garber. The Don is probably not having a good day today. Can't wait to see the tifos!
That was one hell of a game. Someday maybe we too will field a team with a lot of speed and who have been given a clear strategy to win.
I’m happy Crew fans get a home game. What worries me about the cause is the season ticket refunds. Fans should be buying more tickets. Refunds and lower attendances just further Precourts argument.
I completely agree. That being said, as a matter a principal it would be an a-hole move to not at least offer the refund to fans who renewed under the pretense that there were no plans to move the team. For example, someone who renewed knowing that they had a busy year coming up and would likely have to miss several games, but wanted to renew to maintain their status as a long-time season ticket holder.
There were some sections that were full that they did a lot of close ups on, but you could see when they panned the field to follow play that there were large swathes of the place that weren't even half full.
I agree. When Red Bull Arena is scarcely populated, the place comes off like a morgue and you can really tell. Crew fans made that place bounce. Sounded great on TV. I can imagine attendance for these games (and next year) as a real conundrum for Crew fans: do I come out in full force for the team, or do I refuse to give one more cent to Precourt? Either choice is entirely legit.
Sugarman, Earnie, and Curtin all salivating over the fact that the Dynamo are in the Semi-Finals after having only 1 away win all season. They got their 2nd last night in the playoffs. It only gives this FO more fuel to push the "you just have to get there, and then see what can happen" playoff narrative. Thanks Dynamo.
Add the Crew to that. Alexander Callens inexplicably elbows Justin Meram in the face. VAR Chris Penso tells backup ref Ismail Elfath (Alan Kelly left at halftime due to illness) about it, Elfath issues the red, the Crew cruise to victory, narrowly escape yesterday and now host the Conference Finals against Toronto where Toronto will be without Altidore or Giovinco in the first leg. There's no reason why the Union could not be next year's Dynamo or Crew.
You mean Sugarman will relocate and we will get an expansion franchise with a real owner whose not afraid to open his wallet???
