I think Crazy Ray is actually right here. Spending 35-40m on a player we seemingly already have depth at (in Matic and Chalobalah) is kinda bonkers.

Not even a definite upgrade over Matic.

 

Bakayoko is an upgrade on Matic. IMO he just isn't the type of mid we need. Who we needed was Tolisso, a number 8 who can score. Bakayoko is a poorer version of Essien when he was in Ligue 1. Bakayoko is athletic and strong but not polished going forward.
