This has been driving me nuts of late @dapip - the saying is 'of course'. 'Off course' means you're not following the intended route.
For an embarrassingly long period of time after I had acquired a decent handle of the English language, I thought "enough" was spelled "in off."
When I was a kid, I knew of an Eastern European guy who, when he first moved to the US, thought the opposite of the word "future" was the word "pasture." Seeing how he was working as a farm hand at the time, that led to a bit of confusion about what he was supposed to do with the cows.
Sir, you are driving this discussion off course, of course! It is "should have" not "should of," off course.
I used to work as a security guard when I was in college, and one of the guys was an immigrant from Ethiopia. He worked this gig at a posh hotel where one of the bennies was they could eat at the buffet. He was talking about all the good stuff there, saying how he had "beef." "What kind of beef?" someone asked. Steak, hamburger, roast beef... "Cow beef! What other kind of beef is there?"
I'm not a vegetarian but I dated one while living overseas. People used to quiz her about her dietary habits like they were trying to trap her. Goat is ok to eat since it isn't meat. Fish isn't meat, so they tried to convince her it was ok to eat too. Pork was ok too. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I've heard people say that fish isn't "meat," but I don't know how you can make an argument for the other two.
White meat vs. red? I haven't had goat in a few years so I don't remember what kind it is. I'm struggling to come up with the rationale and I'm curious too.
