Ashley Young, Chris Smalling and Phil Jones started against Basel in 2011, when defeat in Switzerland ensured #MUFC crashed out in the group stages. They weren't good enough EIGHT years ago, and certainly aren't now— Peter Hall (@PeteHall86) April 16, 2019 Since Ferguson retired in 2013:City have spent £182.7m on centre-backs.Liverpool have spent £127.7m on centre-backs.United? £76.9m on Bailly, Lindelof and Rojo. #mufc— Samuel Luckhurst (@samuelluckhurst) April 17, 2019 Only four of the #mufc starting XI were bought after Ferguson retired. How a team can be underpinned by buys made by a manager who retired six years ago reiterates how much of a mess the running of United has been.— Samuel Luckhurst (@samuelluckhurst) April 16, 2019
People need to tweet and retweet this shit until Woodward and glazers get the message. Jose bitched a lot about it, but he bitched righteously.
How many games in a row of him being the worst player on the field but still starting until we can criticize Ole over it? Because it currently sits at 4 games.
Yeah but your suggestion of throwing a youth on the pitch to avoid playing Young is a non-starter. You're willing to submit an 18 year old Williams or Laird to the abuse of Messi? Way to kill their careers before they ever started. Or did you want Rojo to play?
The way I see it, he was bad for Barca home, ABYSMAL against WH, and terrible last night. And we truly didn't have another option to be fair. Lindlehof was better at RB than Young was at LB. My disclaimer is if he starts against Everton Ole needs to be sacked and we need to hire Poch.
this. frigging this. the other problem is people are associating the "rebuild" of the 3 previous managers to the one who hasn't had a cent to spend. you see the same thing with presidents. they inherit the blame for the problems of previous regimes. why isn't it that he now has to clean up almost 6 years of mess when José only had to clean up three and failed despite adding a few good pieces? likewise for LvG and Moyes? this isn't even counting the gripes against an aging squad with diminishing talent levels left by SAF. if it's not that the other genius argument of late is he was hired too soon and that's why we're slumping. let's see who he ends up bringing in or at least alleged targets and hope the paper talk of a "massive clearout" is true rumoured to be around 6 players. even if we've miraculously managed to renew three of the deserving six already
Rojo exists in a quantum state of being neither a CB or a LB He has some properties of both but enough properties of neither. Also like Schrodinger’s cat he is neither dead or alive (just perpetually injured).
He bitched about every single player though. He thought the answer was to chase out the talent and get Perisic, and that the answer to our defensive problems was Harry ********ing Maguire.
Right - he looked at the direction football was taking and decided that what we needed was to be taller and slower.
I have a hard time believing Maguire was Mourinho's first choice. I think it was just the one that Jose thought was most likely given the tenuous relationship he shared with Ed at the time. And to be fair - the public challenge to certain players worked. It worked for both Shaw and Martial (Martial was on a run of 7 starts 7 goals when Mourinho was axed). Shaw has stepped up mentally in a tremendous way the last 18 months and I do give that credit to Mourinho. It obviously didn't work with Pogba and that's what ultimately cost him his job. But most supporters are starting to turn on Pogba now, too. So while Mourinho had a poor process for dispute resolution, I think it'd be fair to say he saw the problems in the team.
I don't credit Mourinho with either. Certainly not with Martial, he was on a streak at the start of last season before Mou cut him and the team off, and he was on a streak before Mou signed AS and killed the team's attack. Crediting Mourinho for Martial putting a scoring streak together in those circumstances is perverse.
United have declined under Ole - Ince https://www.msn.com/en-gb/sports/fo...le-gunnar-solskjaer-says-paul-ince/ar-BBW2sFg The guy is either super reactionary or more than likely, he's desperate to be proven correct from his original comments when Ole first took the job.
The starting a youth player was a bit of hyperbole to stress how little I think of Young. I would've played Dalot and had Jones at RB.
It's about time, tbh. The attack especially has been abysmal as of late. Love Martial, but since he got his big, new contract, he's done nothing of note. Need a lot more from our front 4 (5, if one wants to include Sanchez still) if we have any realistic hopes for top 4. So it's good that Ole is calling them out.
We need a ruthless summer and continuity ... Martial needs to step up or leave at the end of next season .. He is earning around 250 k and needs to perform like a 250 k player Aguero KDB and same for Pogs with improve starting 11 he should be performing throughout the season not when feels like.. Lots of softies need to toughen up. Hoping big season from Rashford we def need around 30 goals from him.
We'll see if the actions follow the words. If he really thinks there's garbage in the team (and their is), he needs to back it up by clearing some of it out this summer. Obviously Martial is not included in that.
Martial isn't on the block this summer, no. But he turns 24 next season and brings home 'elite' money. He's being outperformed by Rashford, Lukaku, and Pogba in his own squad. If Martial continues to trend sideways and backwards with production, then he will be on the block in the summer of 2020. If I was Ole, then I'd be urging Ed to buy out Sanchez and release him this summer, sell Pogba for 150-175m, and let Martial/Lukaku know that this next year they have to justify their wages or one of the two will be sold next summer. That culls the 'elite' money makers in the squad who have spotty performance records and it gets our squad management back on track.
Im not going to end up in Martial vs Rashford debate (again) but its quite clear Rashford has bigger role to play under Ole (system) and Ed needs to tie him down quickly but none of them deserves 250 k but we are in desperate spot and its inevitable and smart to bend the knee for now.
I think Rashford's re-up is exactly why we need to begin culling high earners. It's not a Martial v. Rashford debate. It's a complete restructure of our wage bill and positioning ourselves for important negotiations that we have coming up. If Rashford comes out next season fit and firing, he's going to be able to rightfully push for a higher contract in the 250-300k range, or we will walk into the territory of losing him on a Bosman - and that's absolutely not an option for the club. Supporters will forgive losing a Herrera, or a DdG, but also losing a Rashford over BS will put the public perception of the club into complete disarray. He's a superstar of our own making. By getting rid of 40% of our high earners (Pogba, Sanchez) and placing another 40% (Martial, Lukaku) on warning; the club is taking a stance that we aren't gonna be taken for mugs anymore. It'll strengthen our stance in both the De Gea and Rashford negotiations - as well as any big name signings that we might bring in (Koulibaly, Varane, etc...) over the summer.
