Iconic shirts, famous all over the world

Discussion in 'The Beautiful Game' started by feyenoordsoccerfan, Feb 13, 2017.

  1. I got the idea for this thread, when I found in a US MLS thread a shirt release referred to by the posters as a Feyenoord shirt. That made me wonder what other shirts immediately are being referred to the origin as in this case across oceans. So to join this "elite" selection of "Iconic shirts" it must be recognized all over the world as the xx shirt. Iconic also means sponsors havenot been able to mutilate it by changing the original design.
So a few guidelines for submitting:
    - historic preserved design
    - history attached to it
    - recognized all over the world

Maybe you come up with other points to add.

So the kick off of the list starts with the reason why this thread sees the light:

The new Adidas Feyenoord Rotterdam 2017-2018 jerseys introduce unique designs for the Dutch club, set to be released in the coming weeks.

    Feyenoord 2017-2018 Home Shirt
This is the new Feyenoord 2017-2018 home kit.

Boasting the traditional half-and-half design of the club, the new Feyenoord 17-18 kit comes with a black crew neck collar, red / white sleeve cuffs. The Three Stripes are on the sleeves after the 16-17 Adidas Feyenoord shirt featured the Adidas stripes on the side.

Black shorts with red applications complete the new Feyenoord 17-18 home uniform.

    Feyenoord Rotterdam 2017-18 Away Jersey
The new Feyenoord 17-18 away jersey is black and green.

Designed to stand out, the new Feyenoord 17-18 away strip boasts a unique design in black and green. Interestingly, it features the same graphic design as the Portland Timbers 2016 away kit. On the back under the collar of the new Feyenoord 2017-2018 away kit is the lettering Rotterdam.

The new Feyenoord 17-18 away kit will be either combined with white / green or green / white shorts.

What do you think of the new Feyenoord 2017-2018 kits? Let us know in the comments below.

The Dutch team has as one of the few countries the team being called by the colours of the shirt.

The V design of Velez Sarsfield is very rare.

Slovenia has the Triglav mountain across their kit.

The away shirt will be blue again (already decided in december), for the first time in a competitive setting since the fateful July 2014.

That leaves some room for (pretentious) virtue signalling and a nod to recent history.

  6. I think a shirt to be(come) an iconic national team shirt must show/contain instantly recognizable historic symbolism from that country's past or a national feature embedded in the design.

Celtic's green jersey is very iconic. Not many club has jersey with green horizontal line. Real Betis borrowed the design from them. I don't know the story about Sporting Lisbon. Their logo and colors are true representation of Irish immigrants who were the founders of the club. In the old days, they also did not wear number at the back of their jersey.

DC United was founded in 1996. Many clubs have used black as their away or alternative kit. I do believe DC United is the only club with all black as their home kit.

Vasco da Gama? Albeit with a white sash across the front of the shirt.

Yes, Vasco da gama's jersey is iconic. Along with River Plate, not many club has a sash across their jersey. However, Peru shares the same design and colors with River Plate so River Plate does not "own" the design.

True but River Plate were the influence of Vasco's white sash. In 1945 coach Ondino Viera added the white sash after having coached at River and liking the look of their red sash.
Crystal Palace used to have a sash across their shirts. Rayo Vallecano still do.

They will make a special shirt for the (third tier) final I read.

This is the early 60s pattern.
(The 'problem' is imho that the color pattern is not that special, and it is the same set of colors as PSV and Ajax - red and white has always won since 1964; also AZ and Twente use these colors after all)

Sadly, as ever, the UEFA (controlled by others) remains a brunch of salafist sheikhs, domineering germans, corrupt spaniards/italians, imperial french in the mold of Sarkozy and british bastards sheltered on their island (the poorer northern england and the economy will be, the better for them and those 'fans'). A.k.a. the ones who run, finance and dominate that UEFA organisation.

Only 3000 tickets of the 22000 capacity. That equals 13% for our club. What a joke.

The UEFA (media) agenda and collusions against our football is a real thing. It shows once again.

Each matchday a new set of 'sanctions' for fan behavior, fines or another creative sabotage.

They will justify their own job and paycheck that way. That is how committees start an enduring life.

Very fitting how the leading footballers right now are extortioners like Benzema, palestine flag waivers as Salah/Mane/Mahrez, vaccine conspiracists as Kimmich, far-right singing Modric... you name it. The list rolls on.

The footballers, clubs (PSG, City) and people the sport deserves.
