I've had my Howard jersey and Rapids hat on all day, hoping somehow that translates into goals and exciting play. Not so far.
BTW if you missed it, on that yellow Jack Price is suspended for yellow card accumulation on Wednesday, the Rapids 17th game of the season. That's his second suspension for yellow card accumulation already this season. He has yet to be red carded/double yellowed. So 2 games missed for suspension in the first 17 means he's gotten 8 yellow cards in 15 games.
The only things the Rapids have done well tonight: Score a lucky goal Defend in numbers Good goalkeeping Get cautions They look totally inept on the ball, and yet are ahead in the 80th minute.
Despite my plans to watch Red Heat in honor of Russia's win today, I ended up watching the game. Meh, a win's a win. TSN feed was on ESPN+. The commentary team vacillated between hyperbolic and banal so quickly I think the were powering their own sound equipment. Truly horrible. When he came on the field my wife asked me "Are they trying to outdo each other's bad hair?"
Did Hudson tell the players to forget about scoring just stand in front of their goal and defend for 90 mins? In 21 years of supporting the Rapids I have never felt like cheering for the other side until today. There were 10 or at least 9 Rapids players down in defense most of the time. Why was Wilson on the field and Gashi, who was selected for MLS team of the week, left on the bench? This is the first time that the team has won and I felt as though we lost, I'm just really, really down. If I was in Colorado on Wed. I wouldnt buy a ticket to the game for the fireworks, just sit outside in the field and watch them. I have given up on trying to understand Hudson's logic with this team and if they keep playing like today I will give up on the team.
Was it ever a suspension for every 5 cards? Another stupid foul, too. So 8 in 17 games? Looks like the record for yellow cards is 14 by Leonel Alvarez in 1996. Go for it, Pricey!
Wins still feel better than losses, no matter how they happen. We're ahead of SEA in the standings and play them on Wednesday. Could be a 4 game unbeaten streak after that one. Practically a cup-win sensation after the last 15 games.
My guess is the Wednesday game, but we shall see. Maybe Badji will play too? Hope Howard makes it through customs ok... after stealing 3 points on foreign soil. For some reason we get lucky in Vancouver. There are quite a few weak teams in our conference this year. I can't believe I feel this way, but we really should beat Seattle on Wednesday as well.
