I think another decent opportunity is for the Union to lose to the Red Bulls in 2 weeks who are trying to remain as the number #1 seed in the east or potentially going for supporters shield.
The union would have to not win both of hteir final games -- if they get 3 points more, the Revs cannot catch them even if they (the Revs) win out. Montreal not beating Toronto is the best hope, by far.
Agreed, although technically the Revs could catch PHI if they win one and lose one. We be tied at 45 pts (assuming the Revs win their final 2) and each have 12 wins (first tie-breaker). It would come down to Goal Differential, so the Revs would need to make up 13 over the last 2 weeks, which is unlikely. If Montreal ties TOR, they would be at 45 points. They would then have to lose the final game against the Revs, leaving them with only 11 wins. That would give the Revs the first tie-breaker.
Revs just need to win In Chicago. That is all that we should be worrying about right now. Revs must win in Shit-cago.

Yes - switching to a 4-4-2 a month ago may seem trivial but with the same personnel at his disposal, it's on Heaps and his staff to have recognized the positive impact a formation change could make, earlier. They kept making the same mistakes over and over which is the most frustrating part (to me at least). Given the importance of every point in MLS, that should be enough to get him fired.
Yeah, I've got no beef with them having a system that wasn't working, but the problem was staying with it for so long, when even most of us non-coaches could see that a change was in order. And the most maddening thing is, once he finally did what many of us were clamoring for, things started to click--a month too late! Only somewhat related, I was reading a Bruins preview article, and everyone was saying how unacceptable it was to miss the playoffs 2 years in a row, and their goal was to not only make the playoffs this year but go deep. Several players commented how every single point matters, winning in OT, shootout points, points in October, everything. They missed out on the playoffs by a single point. If they miss this year, surely heads will roll... If they were the Revs, they'd be waiting until New Years for some guy named Yuri or Sergei to arrive from Dynamo Lokamotiv in the Russian League, and when he gets acclimated, surely they will rise to the top of the league then!
Everyone including the owner said that. Our owner isn't quite sure the Revs season has started. At least that's what I can tell from checking media reports to see what he's said this season.
Right, but you know he wouldn't miss a regular season pats game in Cleveland. Gotta be there to support Tommy B.
The Crew's draw with Chicago last night mathematically eliminated Columbus. So the battle for the final 3 playoff spots in the East is down to 4 teams.
It's a good thing I didn't care if the Revs made the playoffs. Hopefully the organization can fix the situation this time around without having to go into a 2010-12 type of hole.
Mathematically, they still have a 2.5% chance, but in reality I think it's much lower than that, maybe 0.02%?
Some not so polite responses here. While not eliminated, slim chances at playoffs now. Lots of work this offseason but first our final home match to thank you for the support— Brian Bilello (@RevsPrez) October 16, 2016
Neat chart/graph. Watch the Revs icon. Be wary of the red line. A look at the Eastern Conference standings throughout the season. https://t.co/UH1SQspOGi— Major League Soccer (@MLS) October 17, 2016
I don't even think that would put them through- Revs would need to win by 12 goals or more and Philly lose 1-0, because 11-0 would tie Philly on wins, Goal Diff, and Goal for, so it would go to Disciplinary points which the Revs are losing. These are the tiebreakers Total number of wins: Philly +1 Goal Differential (GD) : Philly +12 Goals For (GF): Philly +11 Fewest Disciplinary Points: Revs +30 as of September 28th (less is better) Considering the largest margin of victory in MLS history is 7 goals, let's assume the Revs were able to win 7-0, that would mean Philly would have to lose by 6 goals, or I guess lose 5-0 and pick up 11 yellow cards and 3 reds?
